Japanese names typically have 2 syllables,
the family name (surname) is first, followed by the persons proper name,

often the syllable combination in the proper name is a message about how wise, just or fierce the man is,

Hidekatsu for example is excellence and success/victory

here is a list of some common name pieces,
Haru = expansion - Hide=excellence - Hira = peacefulness
Hisa = longevity - Kage = brightness - Katsu = success, victory
Kaza = spirit - Kiyo = purity - Kore = existence
Masa = honesty, righteousness - Mitsu = brilliance, fullness
Mori = protection, abundance - Moro = uniformity
Moto = priority, base - Naga = longevity
Nao = correctness - Nari = production
Nobu = expansion, truth - Nori = law-abiding
Sada = determination - Sane = truth - Suke = assistance
Sumi = clearness, permanence - Tada = correctness, directness
Taka = eminence - Take = bravery, mountain - Tame = action
Toki = timeliness - Tomo = friend, friendliness
Tora = bravery, tiger - Toshi = quick-wittiness - Toyo = abundance
Tsuna = control - Tsune = forever, unchanging
Yasu = peacefulness - Yori = dependable
Yoshi = goodness, luck - Yuki = progression

and here is a site (http://dict.regex.info/cgi-bin/j-e/dict) where you can enter other english words to get their japanese equivalents

and this one (http://www.keiichianimeforever.com/culture/japanese/nametranslator.html) lets you find the "japanified" version of a word,
it's not very good, but it's something

I only need about a dozen total, so lets be having them guys 'n' gals...

Just a little encyclopedic note, to complement the above:

the meaning of a word depends on its "kanji" (also known as chinese character) that was introduced from China and developed to the official alphabet of Japan.

Japanese it self is very different from Chinese as Chinese is full of monosyllable and bisyllable words of consonants while japanese comes in clear cut syllables separated by vowels (essentially bears more resemblance to Italian phonetically).

There is an endless array of synonyms in the japanese language that are distinguished only by the context in verbal speech and by knowoledge of the kanjis in written language. A sufficiently educated person reads and writes about 1000 kanji's (!) while the absolute minimum to get by revolves around 100-200.

The total number of kanjis is estimated between 50,000 and 80,000; from these about 10,000 are in regular use.

As such, Kage may also mean "shadow" (typical as prefix for Ninja names/aliases) and Yuki "snow" - these are essentially different words than the ones mentioned above and as such have different kanjis.
