Don't go physically portraying the Prophet*.

You'll upset the Moslems by depicting Mohammed physically, and you don't want to go the way of the Satanic Verses... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif

Comments welcomed.

*I appreciate the Prophet fought well before the Crusades, but the danger of this error is obviously there!

(Whether Mohammed fought well, well before the Crusades, is a different debate altogether....!)

Sorry but what is this post in reference to? Did I not read something or is this a conspiracy against me (again! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif)

Why should portraying him physically bother Muslims? He was a man, not a God, afterall, an historial personage. I don't understand that.

It has to do with the concept of God as the sole 'Creator'. All forms of art fall under this prohibition against depicting any form of living being. Islamic artwork and decoration, if you'll notice, is mainly based on geometric patterns, or arabic script.

In practice, this doesn't always hold up of course - photography and television gave no end of trouble to Islamic jurists! By all means, avoid depicting the prophet, but I don't think anyone's going to be really bothered if you have pictures of say, Saladin.

P.S. Technically, Muslims should also take offense at any depiction of Jesus or Moses as well. I rather think that many in this age would rather conveniently forget the whole thing (rather like everybody seems to forget the prohibition of music)!

whatever the case i'm sure the programmers are on high "multi-culti" alert so i doubt there'll be anything too controversial. except the killing.

Konnichiwa,

I might be mistaken, but I recall that there's about 400 years between the birth of Mohammed and the start of MTW.

Yup, I indicated this in my first post. However, bearing in mind Murphy's Law I thought it prudent to mention it....!
