IDEA COPIED FROM UBERTECH AND MAGNIFIED IN HERE

let us add a clanname behind our own names instead of hardcoded familynames.

MagyarKhan Wolf
Satake Kenchikuka

and so on

so let the players type 2 words to decide how their name will be...

what u think.

I like it. Instead of family names we have clan names. No more need for silly prefixes.

But also these clan names could have a password like now. You know you always start a clan and have to give some obscure name because all the good ones are gone. The clan name bit could have a password protect so people can't use them unless in the clan.

This would solve Boromir's problem with muppets using Dread Clan's good honorable name.

All the good names will go too quick IMO. Clans are a vocal and important part of the community, but they aren't the be all and end all of online play. Many people just want to go on and have a bit of fun but still get into the spirit of things, and so give themselves a medieval type name. But all the obvious stuff is going to go, snapped up by clans who go under within days if they ever get started at all, or registered early because they might want to be used later. The present registration system is straightforward, the chances of you picking the same name are pretty much nil unless you're already maliciously trying to emulate someone. If you try to go online and discover that every obvious name you can think of is already passworded because people grabbed them early on is unfairly restrictive.

What STW gives is the opportunity to have a japanesey name to get into the spirit of things, and a nickname as well.

say you want to be Mggy Plantagenet, or Catiline Borgia, Tankdogg Hapsburg. It's these sort of hard coded names that I think should be maintained, fanous names from the period to give everyone a chance to use them and get into the spirit of things, and not snapped up by clans, which they will be if you let people password them

Batter to have a third option of a passworded clan name you can use if you want to, or ignore if you just want to play as ronin as now, but still have a famous name. that so far as I can tell suits everyone

addendum

basically my point is that registering should be friendly and approachable for newbies, and that they should be able to register with a name they want to use that fits in with the style of the game without getting endless, that name is passworded by XYZ clan (that is actually/ defunct/never existed/ a bunch of lowlives who don't deserve to know the password to anything)

I was thinking more along the lines that the clan-name would no be from a list. But one you wrote in yourself.

The Knights Templar will be a very common name. So the clan i'm in will have others using 'Templar' who are not from the clan. The worst scenario is that we will get blamed for something because somene else with the name Templar is doing/saying things.

This clan-name would register the clan and its reserved name.

I know this does limit opportunities for others but online is very much a clan based thing. Ronin are on the server but there are not as many as there are people belonging to differen clans.

Not my experience generally it's 50/50 at least, and that's now when frankly the game is what nearly two years old. Clans aren't MP in it's entireity, certainly not when a game is new. I'm not trying to denegrate their importance.

The system should allow for reserved clan names as an extra on top of the present system. Change the system so that you have the otion of joining a clan when you create a player or not. If you join a clan or create one the clan prefix is automatically displayed ontop of the name you've chosen at present, if you don't then you just go on with the name you chosen as now. that seems to me the best compromise, clans can protect their names, everyone gets flexibility.

the flaw in the whole system (whether we use mine or yours)is that some asshole is going to get on and password all the present clans names, all clans that form before the game is released etc in the first hour that the server's up. there'll be all sorts of howlng that it isn't fair etc, and it'll be tough
