Well you can obviously forget about the multiplayer strategy game.

Michael had a perfect opportunity to describe that multiplayer capabilities of the game & MP strategy clearly isn't on the CA's agenda for the TW series.

According to Mr Planter the unit sizes have gone up to 200 men. This means u can have a maximum of 25,600 troops http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif on the battle field at once. W00t http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well they arent going to say what they are doing with MP since they have got burned on that for STW and MI.

BTW whats Atomic like? Is it better than PC Powerplay?

Well he lists the factions:

"There are twelve main playable countries, which are England, France, Germany, Italy, the Byzantine Empire (which is kinda the Eastern), the leftovers of the Roman Empire, the Mongol hordes, Russia, Poland and then Turkey. But you have lots of little factions as well. So you have Scotland, Ireland, Hungary and all the little countries too."

This words should tell y how MP will be
# BW: Multiplayer?

MP: A big focus for the multiplayer is on the battles, so we're probably going to go on Gamespy. You can have up to eight players in a single battle. The other thing we've done is to put lots of different battle types in. So you can have your straight 'last man standing' type battle of whoever is left alive wins; but we've also got castle sieges; assassination missions, where whoever kills the enemy general first wins; or decimation battles where it's whoever butchers a certain number of the enemy first. We've tried to give a lot of replay value. The other thing we've done is to put in a map editor, scenario editors and stuff so people can make their own battles, campaigns, scenarios.#

In those words same MP as now no campaign P http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Thanks MJDore for the link. Front page material.

My favorite part of the interview was:

"BW: Do you have an approximate release date, so people can start saving up?

MP: Mid-to-late 2002, and I don't see any chance of us slipping from that because the game is really solid and playable right now. It's a question of how long it takes to get it right and get it polished. We're not going to push it out to a date, we're going to get it right and then release it."

I have no problem with 16 units with 200 men each, i find it hard enough to controld 10 units without the need to continually press the 'pause' button :P

I wonder how popular will the 200 men unit be on MP? Even 120 men mess up my screen view.

If i understood correctly not all units will be in group of 200, only the "peasants". For example the elite knights will be in groups of 40.

From that article I think they are using more diversity in the unit sizes. He mentions something like using large unit sizes for bulk troops like peasants, and using small unit sizes for elite troops like knights. That makes sense.

I remember while we were putting together patch 1.02 we were also thinking of doing something like that, so giving Yari Ashigari 120 troops standard and Warrior Monks only 45 or something similar. We didn't in the end, because we didn't have the time and because the game would then only be playable at the 60 troops standard. Any 80, 100 or 120 troop battle would then crash.

Same MP as we have now... should not come as a surprise really

GameSpy... Didn't we all yell for that to happen instead of EA Play?

I love this idea, of varying unit size.

It makes more sence to me to have elite troops less in number than bulk troops...

*sigh* then to play people we nkow, we need them all on ICQ, or MSn and be excahnged ips or something, then finding the game is full so your friend can't join, and people like me won't even try to join games after a while.

If g*yspy is used, you better mate the SP good (which I'm sure it will be)

The chance to control 16 units of 200men will be damn cool! But Flame is right its hard enough controlling 16 units in a 2v2 or 3v3 battle. But still not too bad!
