Quote In Activision, we have found a publisher who understands what Total War is about.
Whoa.

This is quite possibly the biggest news we've had since MI was released.

Gotta be good news.

Don't bother me. Activision is a lesser evil I suppose.

EA has always been busy with Maxis electronic dollhouse, the Sims.

I've never had any problems with Activision, though, I'm not sure if I ever played anything they ever did on a PC. Anyway, most of us have been complaining about the apparent apathy and incompetence of EA, so do a happy dance. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks Aucassin, wow! i'm in a state of shock, really big news, and i think in the long run, really good news.

100 different units, 10,000 troops in real time battles, 12 nations to choose from....Not for low end computers, i wonder what the minimum requirements will be.

kick ass. It does truly sound like a decision made on ethical grounds. Kick ass.

the only suspicious part is where EA won't comment on why they're farming it out. I would have preferred a company like Impressions Games, since I don't have much info on Activision's record.

also, this is a major setback to my security breaching plans for EA on this project, since I don't know anyone on the inside at Activision.

Right Kuma, thats one of my concerns. Some times I'll experiance lag time with the max amount of units I play in shogun.
My computers not a Pacer, but its no BMW either.
10,000 troops on the field at one time with the same graphics engine as STW? I will believe it when I see it.
Anyone want to start making donations to my'Up grade Clinks computer fund' sorry but they won't be tax deductable http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Impressions is already doing Lords of the Realm 3. Not likely they would want Medieval:Total War. No sense competing with themselves in the same genre.

Whatever the reason for the change, money must must have a lot to do with it.

Activision (PC) collapsed like two years ago. I think another company bought them out after a massive debt thingie had reduced them into a tiny scrap.

Interestingly enough, this big Activision that collapsed had only been a tiny scrap itself a few years ago, when it collapsed the last time. In 1995 the tiny scrap released Mechwarrior 2 and started to grow.

Maybe the second tiny scrap will publish Medieval Total War and start to grow. Who knows. But one thing that I know about Activision is that the Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries multiplayer server is still up after five years and has a semi-active player base ( http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif ).

Edit: Oh dear. Activision intends to release Star Trek: Bridge Commander this Winter. It seems they're really making a comeback!

This understanding extends to everything".

Speechless, (in a good way); this calls for a mainpage news item me thinks.

Here is another article (http://www.avault.com/news/displaynews.asp?story=11192001-83721) from today's Avault.

And Activision are also behind Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune 2.

Face it guys. Suppose Activision does absolutely NOTHING for Total War. That means we're exactly where we are now. The only way we can get worse on support and the server is when we get no support and no server at all. Anything better than that is an improvement. Maybe even in Mediaeval we won't have registration keys that are not in the database, or a call to tech support gets a useful reply. Or am I now too optimistic?

Sounds like good news to me.As Anssi said we have nothing to lose and everything to gain, especially for you guys that play online; when the server works that is. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif EA good riddance, give Activision the ball and let them run with it.

Activision is also notorious for not giving out patches after the first or second patch of its games just like theirs truly, EA. It has an extremely good record for FPS games (Elite Force, SOF, Quake III), but shoddy record on Strategy games (Star Trek Armada, BattleZone II, Call to Power 2).

Like that's any consolation. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

EA isnt so bad, the server is still up...

they just should say us something if they
close the servers for a several time...

I don't know what this talk of Activison being some tiny scrap of a company is about. Anyone can do a search on Google and look up their financials. Activision is no small company. Last year they had revenue of $620 million and net income of $20 million. Others have noted the wide variety of game they release.

The real worry I have is their track record of a lack of support. ST: Armada has been out for at least a year or more, and just recently got a patch that fixed a lot of remaining issues (guess they wanted good publicity for Armada II). Both Call to Power and Call to Power II got a patch or two, but both still had serious problems and were basically abandoned, with gamers left hanging.

I, for one, actually am not encouraged by Activision taking the franchise over. Quality doesn't seem to be one of their mottos.

Its not like EA is any better though. 1 final patch for MI is all there allowing I think.

Here's some Activision news from A-vault:

Quote Activision announced today that Lori Plager has joined the company as senior director of brand development and licensing. Plager brings to Activision more than a decade of experience in the entertainment industry and an extensive background in entertainment licensing. In her new role, Plager will identify, negotiate, and secure worldwide licensing agreements and lead brand development partnerships that will add to Activision's license portfolio. Plager will report to Kathy Vrabeck, executive vice president global publishing and brand management.

Prior to joining Activision, Plager worked for more than five years as director of entertainment & licensing acquisitions at Mattel, where she negotiated and executed domestic and international licensing agreements for Barbie mainline and collector, large and small dolls and games, and puzzles.
I just hope we get a decent game. Activision is good at some things it seems, and shoddy at others but as long as MTW is what we want, and any bugs are patched quickly and well by CA then I dont care who distributes it SO LONG AS ITS GOOD!!!
