Just a thought.
Might be a good idea if lets say 10 fair maps where made.
Plzs dont say green or the iron board.
Also be i good idea to give all maps made a rating in fairness?

This is not a good idea, but then the rest of the maps that are made to geographical precision would be a wasted effort if only 10 maps were played on. If your a newbie then you will definately want to defend a hilly province, not attack one. I think thats why there are so many differnt types of map. A fairness rating possibly or perhaps a difficulty rating to attack/defend.

there are many maps that are considered fair in STW. But still 10 multiplayer maps means other maps dont get a chance.

This is a very hard subject to talk about.

What is fair ? I think this all needs to be revisited

Basically a map has no objective other than to kill more men than the enemy does. All battles are basically you fight until the other person runs away.

And before you say it, yes their is king of the hill, kill the king etc.

What I mean is having another where you have to do objectives. ie hold a position on the map, or capture a position on the map - this would be set out on the map not by the players

FasT your right m8, I did rate some maps for myself, to know if they are fair on mp. And about green and ironing board you are right again. They become a bit boring. What about maps like Ise or Yamashiro, they'd be good for some nice games.

Any of the Vanya maps are great for MP. They are better suited for larger groupings, of course, as simple 1v1s will only get to experience part of their glory. A 4v4 on Vanyasake, Vanyawa, Vanyachi or Vanyatsu would be truly glorious -- an embodiment of Nirvana on Earth indeed. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif

But just wait 'till my next map comes out... it will be riveting...

I don't agree. They should include 1 or 2 flattish maps but there is the community...

Tosa, Kraellin, Vanya and many others have worked hard to make custom maps - most of them are flattish, very tactical ones.

Luckily, they are used!
But only by who is @rsed to get them off Org.
Hence many players now play on Ironing Board...and few do play on maps like the No Hara series, which are like ironing board, but surely nicer to look at and with some forests put in.

In the last 6 months of old STW, custom maps were VERY popular and I can say from experience that 85% of the foyer had them and played all the time on them.

MI is something different. It seems few know of their existence. Who to blame?

The custom maps pack should be included in the official patches! Or AT LEAST available for download right next the patch download on the official site!

In the last patch we have seen that CA included 1 map who won a mapping competition, but ultimately was of little value. We @ ORG try to support custom maps as much as possible, if only the official guys did the same.

Just for the records: Maps for the original STW were made by a VERY difficult program found in the alpha demo of STW. I know that most editors here emailed the devs to help them around with it. No response until the old editor was dead and buried a year later.

The publishers are changed but everyone has to do his part, including the devs. Pray that this situation doesn't repeat itself in M:TW, where they will surely an editor and an editing community.

Finally, a note of thanks.
Thanks to guys like Tosa, Kraellin, Hecose and others, we can now make custom maps for both STW or MI, full custom campaigns, historical battles, historical campaigns, log file readers for both STW or MI, BIF file readers.....

The list is quite long...anyone said the editing community is not good enough? I am sure CA want an external editing community to make the game bigger and better - and they should support it! Thanks.

The No Hara are a damn good series indeed Tera. For camping the best map i think is Echigo. Put your men on-top of the heights to the right hand side. Such a nice place to camp for newbies. Also very hard to attack for vets/good players.

i don't think we have to worry about flat maps in M:TW remember there is holland and the north of france and some english maps should be quite flat but with some nice hills. makes for good gaming i think. and what about the desert maps?
