If you have the original MTW and then bought VI, install MTW + VI + v2.01 patch + Samurai Warlords beta 8. You have to give the beta 8 install the path to your MTW/VI v2.01. You can copy the MTW/VI v2.01 to a new folder and install beta 8 to the copy. That's recommended because you cannot uninstall the beta 8. Be careful when applying the VI install because in my case it didn't identify the correct path to MTW. The v2.01 patch is available in a zip format from the mizus server, and all you do is unzip it to your MTW/VI folder, but don't use the Windows Unzip because that puts everything in a sub folder beneath the folder you specify.

If you have MTW/VI from the Era's Collection, you just install the beta 8 on that.

If you have MTW/VI Gold that came out before the Eras Collection, there is a special v2.01 patch you should apply for multiplayer compatibility before you install the beta 8.

If you have a modified version of MTW/VI installed and don't want to uninstall it, you might be able to get MTW/VI to install again by running the Setup.exe directly from the CD. If that doesn't work, make a copy of the modified MTW/VI and then uninstall the original.

It works if you have patched the game to version 2.01.

This is a little number that appears on the top left hand corner of the in-game menu.

So, does it say 2.01?

If it doesn't download the patch here:
http://www.totalwar.com/index.html?page=/us/support/supportmed1.html&nav=/us/7/3/

then install the patch and then install SWs v8.

If it does, simply install v8

Many Thanks

There are two MTW/VI v2.01 patches. Make sure you get the v2.01 that's for the Gold Edition.

I'm not too sure how you'd turn a game like this into something with any sort of RPG elements. And I think it's safe to assume the same thing with the developers. :laugh4:

RPG can be developing your governors and favourite generals,
lots of things you get them to do in game change their attributes

You've to choose the right era. It's further down on the scroll, after "Late"
"Samurai Warlords"-era.
