Hi! to all.
I am a new in 'town'. I am not much of a forum guy, but get involved in Total Wars recently, found plenty of interesting thing in the forum. So, here I am. For now mostly reading. Played STW, conquered Japan quite a number of time. Now playing MTW-VI. Plain fun! Sure many good things are still to come (RTW and M2TW). I'll 'see' you around.

Hello everyone! Just thought I would say hi. Me and my friend are trying to figure out how to play an old school total war game over the internet and I stumbled onto this forum. Will probably have a look if we have any luck with SW! :D

Hi Daikomo. I responded via PM, then found your other posts.

Am I understanding you correctly, that you currently only have the original STW where you are now? I just retrieved my original STW disks (for the original release; I already have WE/MI 1.02 installed).

As I mentioned in my PM, I can't host. My presumptuous guess is, you can't either (if you have a router up and a firewall running, and neither are configured for hosting--correct ports forwarded, etc.). Puzz3D can host, and often lauds the original STW MP play balance. Perhaps he will see this and consider joining us. If he's willing, I'll install the original STW and give it a whirl.

Hey Daikomo.
I added you to msn. ~:) (anyone is welcome to add me, btw - adress is in my profile.)

I don't have a computer atm, but I'm taking care of that now. After that, I'll probably be able to play STW original, STW WE, and the Samurai Wars mod for MTW:VI, and I will be able to host, and have a superb connection. Hmm, sounds good, but only thing is, I don't have lost of time. University and social life take up most, but now and then a game will be doable.:balloon2:

See you ~:)

And welcome, Enortu!

I'd be up for playing some original STW at 5k koku through the fakeserver. MSN:Mizu_Yuuki@hotmail.com.

BTW, it's possible to save/playback replays with original STW using the same method as STW/MI.

To record a battle:
Find any shortcut for your Shogun executable - right click and click on properties. Go to the tab Shortcut and find the field Target. It should read (wherever it is installed)\Shogun.exe
Now change that to: "(wherever it is installed)\Shogun.exe" ER Run the game through that shortcut and your most recent battle will be recorded to the file (wherever it is installed)\dumplog\replay.dat. Recordings are always saved to the same file name, so each battle that is recorded will overwrite the previous recording unless you rename it.

To playback the battle:
Make a copy of a shortcut for the Shogun executable and do the same process as above, but this time change the target path to: "(wherever it is installed)\Shogun.exe" mEP When you run the game from this shortcut it will replay the battle saved in the replay.dat file. At the end of the battle, all the troops will freeze and just escape out.

IIRC the Record..Replay.. option would not work for everyone.
(I know Orda Khan couldn't get it to work on his pc.)

I still have replays of some of the battles fought years ago on STW/WE. Not certain which versions were being used when I saved them though. Either 1.02 or 1.03.
(I still have old STW and STW/WE installed)

IIRC the Record..Replay.. option would not work for everyone.
It just worked for me in custom battle with STW. The battle played back correctly. It did not work when I played an historical battle.

The unit stats aren't an issue in STW because you can't change the unit stats.

You might have a hard time finding it in stores, but Shogun is the best of the series! It's worth some time and some dollars/euro's/whatever to get it!

Have fun! :book: ~

oh, and, welcome!
