Nudity in the Mod [Archive]

I've run into an interesting little dilemma: nudity.

Howard has a lot of nudity in the Conan stories, male and female. Warriors of the Black Kingdoms, Stygian charioteers, Picts and naturally many ladies are depicted as naked in the Conan tales. However, should this be the case in the mod?

Generally I see nothing shameful about something so natural as the human body, but I can't account for local laws and site protocol, or personal preference. Generally there'd be about as much nudity as in other historical mods like, say, Europa Barbarorum (a few units, event cards and some of the princesses), but unlike EB I can't just say the nudity is for historical accuracy.

I'd be willing to compromise and implement loincloths and some form of top for the women, but I'd still like to be as Howardian as possible.

For completion's sake, here's a list of what could possibly be nude in the mod:

Black Kingdom Warband
Black Kingdom Tribesmen
Black Kingdom Archers
Stygian Chariots (the charioteers are naked)
Amazon Warband
Phantoms (Cimmerian ambushers)
Banshees (Cimmerian warrior women)
Some event cards relating to marriage and birth
Pictish, Kushite, Tombalkan, Puntan, Zembabweian and Pelishtic princesses

If nudity in the mod isn't too much of a problem, I'd try my best to make it reasonably tasteful and not puerile adolescent stuff.

You can make both versions , with nudity and with clothes on and add an extra installer that adds no nudity models, similar to what europa barbarorum has.

If it is how Howard depicts it then there should be no problem but paradamed is right on the idea of having 2 versions, one with nudity and one with out or just keep faith with Howard and just nudist.

EB has an option to exclude the nudity.
Nakedness doesn't need to have anything to do with sex and all. It's just all the focus on it now that makes it so. If we can stand to see each other's dongs in public showers, we can stand that.

Thanks for the responses guys. After some consideration I'll probably have a patch set-up like EB does, so people don't have to stare at hairy Cimmerian backsides if they don't want to.

My thoughts exactly. The only ones that might be sex-related are the betrothal screens and maybe some marriage ones, but I don't plan on making this a porn mod. :D

None of the units are done, but I'll post some of the event pics when I get the chance. A bit racy, but I think they suit the mood pretty well.

I don't see a problem with nudity, it may not be for historical purposes but it is for accuracy. To correctly capture Conan's world nudity is essential.

Well, nudity is OK if you cut out the male dingleberries and buttocks and leave the female cheecheeberries and breasts with pasties in.

I think as long as its tasteful there shouldn't be any objections. With a disclaimer anyone who might object shoudl be warned. Two versions a "clean" and a "nude" version woudl allow anyone to download which ever version they prefer. Personally full male or female nudity wouldn't bother me as long as its staying faithfull to the source material or at least the spirit of the source material

Robert E. Howard's Conan universe is full of nudity, so I don't think many people will have problems with it, but just to be safe I think there should be a no-nudity version for all the prudes out there.

True, but some prudes might be attracted to epic battles and the heroes involved in them such as Conan.

Conan has grown so far beyond his origins I agree that a non nude version would have an audience. I discovered Conan through marvel and then the movies and I'm sure a lot of other people have only experienced Conan that way. I'd rather see the option than to just have a non nude version. Just my opinion though:beam:

some nudity is unavoidable if youre going to be faithful to REHs works, and I really dont see a problem with it, but it neednt be too explicit, and some loinclothes cant possibly hurt.

This issue reminded me of the mod.
I read a discussion about wether a Mount and Blade mod should feature loincloth-free gesatae, and suddenly this just popped into my head!

Given the age rating M2TW has because you go around killing people I doubt minor nudity would affect the age rating (it's 16+ in the UK and possibly the rest of the EU).

In the U.S. Medieval 2 is rated "Teen",and even has "sexual themes" on the list of content (though I have no clue as to why,as I have yet to see any post-battle cutscenes of the conquering army taking the city's women). So I don't think it'd be that big of a deal here (or,rather,there,as I'm still somewhere in Lakonia,undergoing the agoge,after all).

My personal opinion on the matter would be that , if possible , you should stick to the spirit of the comic/books . I could hardly describe the comic as pornography , and I would find nudity in the mod tastefull if in the spirit of the story .

In this case off course I think you should provide an add-on for less or no nudity , to make everyone happy .

Make a loincloth for men but not charioters or women ok
If women wore loincloth on the underneath but no top its ok
because conan is a 15 with toplessness and mtw2 is a 16 so you wouldn't need to worry:medievalcheers: anyway make loincloth for fussy ones:gossip:
