View Full Version : Capo de Tutti Capi - II: SIGN UPS

Seamus Fermanagh
01-06-2008, 17:57
This is a sign-up/I'm interested thread for CdTC2.

Play will start 4 February 2008.

Capo will run with a day phase first (18 hours or so), followed by 2-3 night/day phases of 36 hours, and then settle into a 24 hour per phase rotation from there. The lengthened phases at the outset are to allow players time to interact in/out of the thread.

...and yes, this is an offer you can't refuse. Capisce?!

Capo 1 Thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=77078

Capo 2 Game Thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=89205

Current List (alpha) of those interested in playing: is in the Capo - II Rules and information thread

If you've been left off by accident, please PM me.

Total is 77 so far. This means that the minimum threshold for the full 5-family game HAS been achieved.

Therefore, the tentative schedule is as follows:

Capo-II will start at 1500 EST on 4 February 2008.

More players ARE welcome; more IS actually merrier in this format.

Any player registered to play prior to 1000 EST on 4 February 2008 will be randomly assigned one of the roles available: Townie, Detective, FBI Detective, Doctor, Don, Luca, Made, WiseGuy, Other*. Role PMs will be dispatched between 1000 EST and 1400 EST 4 February 2008.

Late registrants may play -- I'll let folks join in as late as 2300 4 February 2008 (by PM) -- but they will only be assigned Townie, WiseGuy, or Other* roles. As previous Capo players will confirm, even a Townie can end up as the Capo de Tutti Capi, so this is not a wasted game even for the late starters.

I will ask Andres to close & lock this thread at 1000 EST on 4 February 2008.

The game will be played in one thread -- the one currently locked and featuring only the prologue -- but there will be a short information thread as well. This thread will feature the Game Rules, Daily information summaries (alive, dead, etc.), and any rule discussions or rules questions to the game host (me!). All play should be in the story thread.

Keep pushing for 100 Players!!!!

Welcome all and thanks to Andres for the assist.

We're now at 53 -- list published in post #1 of this thread, which I'm editing as we go along. One recruit each and we're golden.

As you know from perusing the rules, I'm putting together a "points" system for evaluating player success. Since this is definitely a game that gets better with more playing, I'll sweeten the deal by providing a few discretion points to good recruiters. 1 point for 1 recruit, 3 for 2 and 5 points for three recruits. Have your recruit PM me saying it was you who prompted them.

Shameless, yes, but if the military can use recruiting bonuses, why not .org mafia?!?

How can the mafia control 3 doctors?

He was in a townie protection group that was trying to block mafia attacks -- and was quite successful with several of them ending up as doctors. It was a powerful component of the eventual town win.

No role is static in Capo, almost every role could end up as crusading vigilante fighting for the town or mafia Don before the game is over.

I do not have great confidence in one hundred players participating - I have read Capo de Tutti Capi, and it seems that many players were simply inactive, "Cannon Fodder", for the most part.
A good 20 of the players were, so how many of these will exist in a game of 100? Especially if this game is delayed for any length.

It is true, I have announced the arrival of the Devil himself, but I hope we do not place so many people upon this ship that it will sink under pressure..

I think that in general, having more players reduces the impact that the inactive ones have, since even if 30 or so out of 100 are inactive, you still have 70 active players. If Seamus implements anything like standard WoG rules, the inactive ones should be pared down to manageable numbers.

The only drawback in having really large numbers of players is that it makes it very hard on those who would like to participate on a casual level. Every time they check the thread, there are dozens of new posts to read, and it becomes overwhelming. However, I think the benefits of large numbers still outweigh the drawbacks.

I had well over 50 last time through. With a little organization, things were processed in a reasonably timely fashion. The key is systemization -- and I have been granted a better PM ability by the powers-that-are in order to facilitate this even more effectively this time.

Inactives were weeded out fairly quickly and either requested removal after a PM prompt by me or met with an unfortunate "accident." I even wogged one bloke by having him switched into the line of fire in place of one player who had been successfully protected -- I rather liked that one.

I have lengthened the first few phases in response to many of the comments last time through. Apparently it is the first few phases -- as groups begin to form and make plans etc. -- that take the greatest "off-screen" time. With the slightly longer opening phases, this should come off a notch smoother even with more numbers at play.

Have your recruit PM me saying it was you who prompted them.See?

Roles go out randomly anyway.

If you insist on lynching Sasaki Day Two -- your first opportunity -- you can do so but....sheesh. Can't we let him get a couple of hours logged on the gameroom again before the death threats go out?

We have our 75 players.

All 5 families will be active. That means 5 Dons and their attendent Mades & Lucas dueling for control, 3 Doctors, 3 Detectives, the FBI detective and at least 2 "Other" roles as well as the host of Wiseguys and Townies...

I shudder for Fatlington. :devilish:

Keep recruiting the fun of this story only increases as the cast gets larger.

I am going to be out of town from Sunday, Feb 3 to Thurs, Feb 7. I may have internet access while I am gone, but I don't know for sure. If I don't, I won't be able to post until Feb 7th. How will this starting inactivity impact me?

Seamus Fermanagh
01-30-2008, 16:07
You would miss the Day 1, Night 1, and Day 2 phases. With Capo I as a guide, this would suggest that few decisive events will occur on day or night 1, and that Day 2 is hard to predict [1st lynch] unless some mafioso has gaffed.

While events may not have progressed far, team building will almost certainly have begun.

If you have at least limited access, especially for PM purposes, that may suffice, but skipping the initial phases entirely could leave you "odd one out."

Of course, that might be an advantage....

TinCow

Tincow, you're now added in.

Caius:

EVERY player has a role -- by definition. Sorry, couldn't resist. :devilish:

Remember though, if you start as a townie, there is no need for you to finish as one. YOU can control your fate with a little luck and some good play.

In Capo-I, we had two townies promoted to Doctor, 1 townie who made it all the way up to Made Gangster, and one unattached WiseGuy who ended up as a Don of one of the mafia families!

I pity you Stranger- you were certainly innocent!

But there are enough players here to ensure a safe entry.
Perhaps even we the active members could help each other gain a foothold by voting for the most inactive player first - instead of simply randomly killing someone.

This will make the voting system less similar to standing everyone tall in the field of a machinegun's sights.

Andres

If im getting lynched or killed in round one... real people are going to... well you know...

As long as you don't violate .Org rules and the spirit of the Gameroom (i.e. good sportsmanship, fair play, and certainly no cheating (allthough most of us can appreciate an, eh, "creative interpretation of game mechanics"))...

I know it's annoying to get killed/lynched round one (especially when it happens several times because your username starts with an "A" :brood:). In this game however, the dead are encouraged to keep participating, so you can still help your team after dead. Don't forget, unless you are a "solo character" (typical example: serial killer role), you are always part of a team. You play for a team victory, not for personal glory, so the survivial of one particular player, even your own survival, is not the most important.
