...and here I am, having jumped over from the Sword dojo.

I ve decided to give this mod a serious go. I ve installed a fresh copy of MTW + VI as three separate CD discs, which as far as I understand, is ideal for this particular mod.

I ve no idea what to do with the maps and castles but I ve downloaded them for later. The stats advice is a little beyond me at present-first I ll get the mod going.

Hi Tony,

for single player the beta_8 version is best.
What do you mean by separate CD disks?
It's good to have a separate copy of MTW/VI, that's true.
The maps are probably for MP, which ones do you mean?
The additional castles are nice to have, follow Puzz3D instructions on how to install them. (first post in beta_8 thread)
You can ignore the stats changes for now.
Have Fun!

Hello R'as al Gul! Thanks for the quick reply.

I ve installed the Beta_8. The maps and castles were with the Beta_8 download ie in the same place, but separate downloads so I ve done nothing with those. They were here:

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=82292

The install appears to have gone well, but theres a mixture of MTW and STW musics-the medieval bell between campaign turns. And the same Medieval choir music for battles.

The disks are the original ones I bought some years back-two for MTW and a separate expansion disk for VI to version 2.01. For MTW/VI previously I ve been using the Gold Edition which , I think was not preferred for this mod.

Hi Tony,

The Gold Edition should be ok for this mod, but since you already went with MTW + VI + v2.01 patch that's fine. The extra maps that Tosa made are only for multiplayer. We no longer use the STW mod beta8 in multiplayer because it's not stable, but it is stable for single player. The beta8 includes and uses all the original STW maps for the campaign, so it's more like playing battles in original STW. There are other improvements to the campaign as well.

The castles that come with the beta8 don't work well. The extra castle download is a work in progress but worth getting. It's only one castle that gets larger as it's upgraded, and it's used for all of the castle battles. This castle works much better, but I'm still trying to improve its playbalance. After that I'll make other castle maps for beta8. We also have a bug in that some battles which should have a castle in the battle get played on a generic map instead. I'm still trying to identify the cause and fix the problem.

One other thing that's important to get are the new starting incomes for the provinces in barocca's post here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=82292&page=5). Using Notepad you can replace the income section in the \campmap\startpos\smap_8.txt. This definitely makes the campaign better. Instructions are in the beta8 thread in my post here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=82292&page=10). Also, the kensai really needs the stat adjustment mentioned in that post so that it's not quite so strong.

You can import the sounds and music from your STW. There is a thread in this forum on how to do that. It's a bit tricky to get right, but it does work.

Hello Puzz3D. Thanks for the info.

I ve looked into the Program Files to find the STW_SoundSwapper folder. I do have STW WE installed already, as I was "learning" how to play it before deciding to go ahead with the mod.

Im not that confident that i ll be able to follow and implement the instructions in the STW_SoundSwapper folder without messing things up. Its an important nuance to the game and I d like to get it in properly.

OK I ve just found the SoundSwapper thread:

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=82941&highlight=soundswapper

but that is not easy! I ve no idea about the choice command mentioned.

Choice.com is an old DOS command file that's needed for DOS batch files to display a menu. It's not included in WinXP. Here's what I would do to get this file. Go to the wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinRAR) and read about WinRAR. Follow the first external link, and download and install WinRAR. Then download samuraiwars_11b.zip (http://www.mizus.com/hosted/Yuuki/samuraiwars_11b.zip). Open that with WinRAR, highlight choice.com and extract it to the \windows\system32 folder. You should then be able to run the bat files to transfer the STW music to STWmod.
