This thread is for suggestions, or features you'd like to see included in Ancient TW (so this would be the place for "I think the Assyrians need armoured slingers", for instance, although bear in mind this particular one isn't likely to happen :laugh4: (And neither is an RTW version....)

WHAT?!?! NO ARMOURED SLINGERS! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS, ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!

:laugh4:

Hmm, now that I think on it, I think perhaps the Cimmerians should have a better bow. Were they not steppe nomads? Maybe there weren't any recurve bows yet, but I think the Cimmerians should have some kind of armour piercing arrows.

Persia's late cavalry should be pretty heavy . By then they had partial horse barding .

Maybe give the Rhodian slingers an AP trait ?

Have the Royal Guards be pure lancers . Matter of fact it might be a good thing to keep all bodyguards non-archer units .

Uhh besides that there is nothing I see really to be added. As I play more of the campaigns something will probably come up .

Like an eejit I'd composed a reply here, then closed the window without posting it -DOH!

So, as I was saying - with the likely splitting of various scenarios into two or more installs, there should be a bit of room for new animation folders, not a lot but hopefully enough to make some nice additions. If I can make the space, then I do have a cunning plan for ancient-style barded horses. Scyth bows I'm pretty sure were composites, just like later nomads used, but whether or not they were recurves I couldn't honestly say. I thought those units had been set to LONGBOW in the unit prod, so should be AP (however, I haven't fiddled with the HTW projectile_stats at all, except for setting up the miners). But I could be wrong... ~D Likewise, with the Rhodian slingers, they are exactly as implemented in HTW - I think their benefit is in range - the heavy slingers do the AP thing, but with less ammo and less range.

Keep the ideas coming :2thumbsup:

A suggestions list if you ever humor a diodachi campaign

factions
The Seleucid Empire
Ptolemaic Empire
The Antigon(sp?) kingdom
Lysanders realm (the dudes who were around before "Thrace" in RTW basically)**
The Koinon Hellion
Armenia
Pontus
Parthia
The Sarmatians
Baktria*
Mauryan empire*

*if map goes that far
** depending on start date
Example unit list
Seleucid empire

Pezoi
Silver shields
Thorakitai
Silver Shield Thorakitai
Heitorai
Eastern Heavy Cavalry (dudes with scale shirts , assyrian helm and a lance)
Persian kinsman cavalry (half cataphracts with an AOR in the old persian empire)
cataphracts
Kleurchoi Pikemen (huge ass AOR pikeman that have good stats . Huge AOR represents how military colonies could be stuck anywhere. Should cost more for upkeep to show that it costs to take them off their land)
Native pikemen (persians ect trained in makedon style .)
shitty native skirmisher unit
Jewish Native Auxillaries (ok armored skirmisher with an AOR in Judea)
slingers
Archers galore

fantastic, i had no idea this mod existed, and will happily give it a spin.

is there any chance you guys can roll all the patches into one v2.53 .exe because at the moment it looks like i have about 5 different files to install?

Kind regards

Hi Furunculu5, glad to have you on board

I was holding back on that one, as you may have seen the poll in the other thread, it looks as though future development will go a slightly different route due to customer demand :laugh4: Basically the Bronze Age and classical era scenarios will go into separate installs for performance/features, and that's going to be a big change (well, an involved one to implement....) when it happens, so I've left current releases 'as is' for now.

For the time being the quickest way to get everything is v2.0 Full Install, 2.5 Expansion + 2.53 Patch.

I don't suppose it would do any harm to make a "cut to the chase" 2.53 Full Install, though :laugh4:

And RA, thanks for the input, I am taking notes and plotting future moves :2thumbsup:

EDIT: on second thoughts, I think I have custom battles sorted for Alex now, so I can make a Full v2.54, and release the new new Alex_unit_prod which is all that will be required to fix an existing 2.53 for Alex-era custom battles

sounds amazing, i shall look forward to the v2.54 Full with great anticipation.

I just never got on with the realtime campaign map of Rome and M2, so i am delighted people are still working on the original MTW.

Congrats

OK, I've had a look at doing a 2.54, and I'm afraid it's not viable at the moment as my development copy is currently all half-way to Rise of Persia - and the Alex custom games aren't working, contrary to expectations. I could probably do a 2.53 Full install though, with a "by parts" series as well for dial-up use.

a 2.53 full install would be brilliant

i am happy to add the small 2.54 patch to that.

I'll try and get that put together tonight, then there will be bit of a hiatus as I'm doing a few bits for the new PMTW release, and in between working on the new scenarios. So far I can see the Ancient series extending to three separate mods:

Ancient TW 1 "Bronze Age Europe" (the original main-map campaign across three eras 1280-700BC)
Ancient TW 2 "Eastern Empires" (Rise of Persia, Conquests of Alexander, Diadochi)
Ancient TW 3 "Roman Wars" (Punic Wars + Britannia 43AD)

Yes, I'm resurrecting my old, long-lost, killed-by-a-dying-computer Roman invasion scenario. But now with added experience and a modified campaign map :rtwyes:
