the sliced salami syndrome
does anyone have this?
if you look carefully the flanks of the horses looks like sliced salami or something.
i think its a graphics glitch.
but mind you, it only occurs when you look at the horses from a certain angle.
i think ill call it "the sliced salami syndrome."
:laugh4:
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
They're speed holes, it makes the horse go faster! :driver:
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
I haven't the faintest idea what you're on about.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
do you not see that the horses look 2-D, or like sliced salami?
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
What do you have your graphics options set at? For lowered settings they probably have to make a few...concessions for graphics quality so things still run nicely.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
everything on high.
but i didnt have AA on, so ill try that a bit later.

Personally, it looks to me like the shadow settings gone a bit awry. Either just odd lighting, or the settings themselves. I've been playing on either high or ultra with fairly high AA etc, and everything has been absolutely gorgeous.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
can you post a pic of cavalry taken from the same angle i did? ill try fiddling around with the settings.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
I'm at work, but can remote in to my computer at home through VPN. I'll see how well I can take screenshots from work, entirely through remote desktop. Could be interesting :laugh4:

It's your mental perception of the picture. Look's fine here.
While the row of horses do look the same, as in, same person/same horse in a row, it isn't in 2D.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
im actually suspecting not having AA on....

its not the horses themselves that the problem. look at this, in the red box:
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
Yes, I even get this on high graphics.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
I see what you mean now, my mistake. I thought you was trying to say the horses were like Duke Nukem.
Just in front of that red box on the horse in front, look at it's tail.
AW: Re: the sliced salami syndrome
do you have hardware shadows enabled?

They look like horses to me. Just horses.
They look just like every other horse I've seen in the game. Not that I've been paying that much attention as I find cavalry a liability, TBH.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
I finally managed to get a screen cap taken. Good lord is it a pain in the rear to take one through remote desktop. Talk about a slideshow!! :furious3:
My horses don't seem to suffer from the same 'sliced salami buttox' problems that yours do. :inquisitive:
Definitely looks like you don't have your AA/ASF settings up very high, as I can see the jaggies on your shadows, where mine are smooth...apart from the crappy JPEG compression. :laugh4:
AW: Re: the sliced salami syndrome
Is that a direction indicator light he has on his skirt?
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
That horse on the right of the picture appears to have no arse.
Is that what you're on about?

Don't you know it's dangerous to make turns without signaling properly?!?!?
Either that or the poor bugger gets afraid of the dark and needs a night light, that he keeps in his pocket. :hide:

aye- i will try it with AA (x4) on (i had AA tunred off before) in a bit then i will try a few other things as well.
hopefully it wont mess up my FPS too much...
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
FIXED!
having AA on isnt as important as having shadows on.

I have this problem on Ultra. Stupid shadows making my horses look like zebras...
It's good to know theres a (sort of) fix to this. :2thumbsup:
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
I've noticed a similar problem with the sails of ships on the campaign map, but its not really a major issue.
Re: the sliced salami syndrome
I noticed it immediately when starting the game and testing graphic settings. The only remedy I found was to use ultra shadows, but this has a trade-off....Trees flicker all over the map and snow+shrub totally screws the map into a blinking mess.
When running in SLI everything looks perfect....too bad I get memory crashes after a few battles. so much for the patch :laugh4:
I guess in a world where the AI cant land a soldier in India everything is working as intended.
