Sorry for late reply, but this is a very quiet section of the forum nowadays.
Im not an MP player myself, so you will have to excuse my lack of knowledge on this. As far as I know the official servers went down many years ago and there are no known fakeservers up at the moment either. Usually if you want to play online you will have to get a group of like minded players together and set a date.
I'm surprised that you find the (battle?) AI weak? Are you playing on Expert difficulty and which version of STW are you playing?

I tried expert mode. I quickly got frustrated when I told my troops to chase the routing enemies, then all my troops got tired and decided to run away even though we'd won the battle... It seems like expert mode just gives huge penalties, without actually improving the ai. Personally I find medieval's AI much more challenging.
Unfortunately my computer can't even run medieval 2, so there's no way it'll run shogun 2 :(
I see... then perhaps Medieval 1 with the Samurai Warlods mod might be what you're looking for?
