Well, just thought I'd start a thread now that there is a new president elect for the U.S.A.
President Obama.
Everyone celebrate or get used to saying it.

While similar, the focus of a topic on either the GOP or election period does not really represent, nor fully give weight to the now post election era.
I therefor thought it important to dedicate a thread to the concept and reality of the elected soon to be new commander and chief of the United States, removing him from the season and situation of competition to achieve this role.

I threw up a little in my mouth at the sound of it...

I predict little change in terms of foreign policy, in respect of Palestine Obama has already given the nod for Israel to continue with whatever it is people wish to call what they are doing, in terms of Aghanistan, we may actually see some money go into that mess but to no avail. The Western backed government is powerless and the U.S, I doubt, can make any difference now. Iraq I suppose will be left to erupt on its own and we can all watch the blood bath on CNN. Though I wish to state that responsibility for that will not really reside on the shoulders of Obama.
As to new wars, well Obama's rhetoric gives me little hope of Obama being any less of a Hawk than Bush, Pilger already stated what I believe in a nice little report on his website.
Soo, no real change.

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.
Bopa, you're turning into one of those people who just can't be pleased when it comes to the U.S. This was a huge substantive rejection of most of the last 8 years... but yes, it's not a promise to completely dismantle the American Empire in its entirety. I am not sure anyone promising to do that for you would ever have a chance of getting elected.

Well I can be thankfull that the U.S did not bomb Iran, thank you. Thanks to Obama for pretty much ruling that out.
Now I know that you love your party Koga, thats fine, but don't expect me to be happy about another round of the Democrats...
When the U.S really does change and grows out of its two party system, I will buy you A GOD DAMNED BEER!

We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Congrats to America.
Don't think it will change much though, which will only lead to chronic dissapointment among those preaching obama-mania on both sides of the atlantic.
The only real change in foreign policy will be Iraq, in limited manner. In all other issues it'll be business as usual. There will probably be more extensive changes in domestic policy, but that doesn't concern me much.
On the other hand, McCain looked like the guy who would raise Bush's blunders to a new level so I'm glad Obama won.
Yes, yes, all fine and dandy but can he say nucular?
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

I can't see that this thread is adding much to the existing two, and since many members will be heartily sick of the US election by now, I think we can invoke the Non-proliferation Treaty.
