    Background Story:

Sarpedon Syriakos is the son of Antiochos Syriakos, and he spent his days growing up in Mikra Asia where he learned how to fight, lead, speak and behave as a prince. Most of the friends he had growing up are now either dead or amongst his bodyguards, with the exception of Hilarion, who he instead use for political tasks, such as representing him in the Council when Sarpedon can't attend it himself.

    (Work in progress.)

    Secondary Characters:

Hilarion is the son of a nobleman from Makedonia who had, just prior to his wife giving birth to Hilarion, moved to Ipsos, and who had quickly established themselves as one of the richest families in the area. They had thus afforded to school Hilarion properly in the arts of politics and rhetoric, and when Sarpedon met him, he immediately saw the use in him, for he was a bright man, and had no physical flaw to criticise. He is the same age as Sarpedon himself.

During his adventures, he often noticed the grand villas of the nobles, the aristocrats, the rich; he envied those who lived in wealth and extravagance, desiring to live in such conditions too. Upon reaching military age, Hermokrates enlisted himself into the army, deciding that through arms was he able to attain wealth. His apparent skill in leading men was noticed, he was able to work his way up the ranks, although not serving in any military campaigns, save for a few minor battles against the ptolemaioi. Soon, Hermokrates was promoted to the rank of a strategos at the age of 27; then, he bid farewell to his comrades and head for the capital Seleukeia, to attend the royal council of the then-Basileus Antiochos. Hermokrates found Seleukeia of great wealth.

He assumed by doing this he could change something, but eventually realized there could be no true change, and now fights his war simply for the sake of his friends and men. He battled several rebel bands around the cities of Antioch and Edessa, before he was finally given command of the newly created 1st Babylonian army. He went off on the Phalavan campaign, where he won several large battles against the Nomadic scum. But it was at this point he began to become disenchanted with the Arche, he gathered together a group of sympathetic Generals and, when he returned to Babylon, Revolted against the Arches rule, taking control of a large area of Mesopotamia. Patrokles accepted he had done this action for greed, and marched to Antioch, hoping to force a peace treaty. It failed and Sarpedons royal army moves even now to end the rebels once and for all. But Patrokles is not going to go down without a fight he gathered together the greatest army ever see outside of Sarpedons own and marched to Antioch, taking the offensive. the two great armies now meet in the plains of Antioch, both thirsting for the others death. Strategos Hetairos Arrhenides Gedrosianos Cunobelinus

    Age: 43

Wife: Bu-Itum (cousin to Aratos Syriakes)
Children: Hippolochos Gedrosianos Koun, Adeia, Diodoros Gedrosianos Eudeyrn.

    Biography:
Born to Cunobelinus, who was a swordbearer of the Brennus himself. His father was killed in a tragic bandit attack on their farm. The 3 year old Cunobelinus, and his mother were the sole survivors. Cunobelinus' 6 brother's were killed. Wandering the hills of Galatia looking for help, they were captured by slavers, and brought into the Arche. Bought by a wealthy scholar, Cunobelinus learnt to read and [somewhat] write. When he was 16 the house of his master caught fire from an unattended oil lamp, and Cunobelinus saved the majority of the tenants, including his free Greek friend Achiakos (they swore a brotherhood over this soon after). Due to this his master freed Cunobelinus and his mother, and had them join his household. Being old and heirless, when he died a year later his fortunes were left to Cunobelinus' mother. Cunobelinus was selected at a military parade for his skill and determination to join the ranks of the Strategos. When he was 18 he attended the first Royal Council and has fought under the Arche's flag ever since.

    His Journey:
During his time fighting under Sarpedon's command, Cunobelinus had a vision of his father. He told him to take a pilgrimage to the heartland of his ancestral home, Cispaline Gaul. Cunobelinus had no knowledge of where his father was born, nor much at all of Gaul herself. This was all revealed to him in the visitations his father gave him. Even his closest friend and brother Achiakos did not come with him. He told him to take his place under Sarpedon till he returned instead. When Cunobelinus came upon a village in the mountains just East of Massalia he had another vision. His father told him he was coming to his village of birth, where he met Brennus and embarked on his own journey, ending up in Galatia. Cunobelinus' father told him to speak with the chieftain. He immediately recognized him, as a spitting image of his father. He said "I knew you would come one day... You have an important mission... I'm sure your father will tell you all about it... But first you must test yourself. You will climb to the top of Gleann, there you will speak with the Gods, your ancestors, and your father. You will listen to them and they will give you your mission. Beware, boy. Be true to yourself and to them. You cannot hide your past actions and deeds, nor can you hide your future ones! They will see all. Go, and proceed with caution...
When Cunobelinus finally returned from Gaul, he was a different man. He now has a mission in life. And will sacrifice all for the Gods in order to see that their will is done, whatever that may be.

    Satrapeia Parthyaias- Seal of Office

    Oracle

    Dioikeites

    Wise Man

    Tamias

Clerk- Mardakou, a Babylonian who served alongside Phanias' first regiment as part of the spear line and was the paymaster for the entire force, former steward of his Sophene estate and family friend- secondary character

Master of Horse- Oxydozes, Phanias' cousin, an unrepentant nomad who sometimes, when the urge becomes too great, runs off on all types of courier errands for Phanias. When he is present, his task is to drill Phanias' cavalry. He is noted to be a great horseman even among other nomads.secondary character
The position was first held by Aziles, Oxy's father, also a famed horseman before he passed into the beyond.

History: Born of a Syrian captain in former Basileios Antiochos' own regiment and a noblewoman-in-exile of the Royal Skythian lineage, Phanias lived most of his young life on an estate in Sophene near Karkathiokerta, identifying with the heritage of his mother's people. Phanias knew Basileios Antiochos from his visits to the estate, and on his 16th birthday, Phanias was inducted into the Seleukid army as a light cavalryman. Though his enlisted service was not especially distinguished with any major battles, he still managed to rise to the command of his regiment. He retired honorably from the Army upon his father's death to manage his estate for a few years. In 272 BC, at the commencement of the war with the Aigyptian Ptolemaioi, he was recalled into the Army at the rank of Strategos. During the first council, Basileios Antiochos appointed him to the rank of Satrap of Parthava, giving him the charge of defending the eastern borders from the rising Parni confederation. After some years of distinguished service in his new position, Phanias was informed that henceforth, he would be considered as an adopted member of the Royal line as a reward for service faithfully rendered. Upon the death of Basileios Antiochos, the new Basileios Sarpedon, in an unprecedented move, declared Phanias as Kleronomos Basileios, citing the unfitness of Basileios Sarpedon's brothers' as the reason for this sudden elevation. Since then, he has governed his Satrapy ably and supported the regular army in quelling a Persian revolt. At present, he is left in sole defense of the eastern lands of the Arche, due to an unfortunate civil war in the heartlands of the Arche, while the Parni Confederacy, now calling themselves the Pahlavan Kingdom, have increased their aggression against the northeastern borders. His son Marsyas, a talented young man, has taken a position at his father's side to assist in the government of the Satrapy. He is currently undertaking an offensive campaign against the so-called "Pahlavan Kingdom", now that the Babylonian Insurrection has been put down. The campaign goes well, with 1 major victory under his belt.

Personality: Phanias is a somewhat xenophobic, quick tempered man. He has more than a little of the independent spirit of his mother's Skythian people. He considers himself to be more Skythian than Syrian. He particularly hates the Eastern nomadic tribes, lumping them all together with the Sauromatae, who ravaged his mother's lands and caused her to flee to the Arche for asylum. The only people he does not consider foreignors are Skythians, Syrians, Greeks, and Persians, the latter only due to his experience in governing them. He's not much on spit and polish, and believes that orders are merely suggestions unless he is the one giving them, though he's not so unwise as to spit in the face of someone much more powerful than himself. To him, compassion and the welfare of his people are more important than authority of any kind, in fact, he believes that authority is only a tool to be used in furthering the welfare of his people. Horrific tales heard from his mother during his childhood and continued struggles in the east have caused him to view the world in a somewhat pessimistic light, since he knows that it is all too easy for things to go wrong. His unselfish nature compels him to fight against what could become a severe depression with all his being. It is this that drives him to action. This compassion for his fellow man also contributes markedly to his temper, causing him to lash out at those he sees as taking advantage of the common folk who quietly go on about their work.

    Secondary Characters:
Mardakou, who has risen from a military, and later, estate clerk to become Phanias' representative at council.

Oxydozes, Phanias' cousin, horsemaster, and private courier, personal spy, and general confidant.

Phanias trusts these two men above all others.
