    Default Late Game Ship Selection Lag/CTD

    When I'm able to recruit 2nd and 1st rates, occasionally they become unselectable due to lag or CTD. This also relegates some fleets to giant statues.

    I would love to be able to send larger ships on their own to patrol, but as it stands now the only working soloists are too small to defend themselves adequately.

    I'm sure that others have had this problem even though some forums report that the problem has been fixed (yes I have all the updates)

    Yeah, the lag CTd is still there.
    You can un-CTD it by taking another ship and joining it with the fleet that causes CTDs. This seems to reset some value and the fleet will be good to go again.
    I have a small ship shadowing my main battle fleet for this very purpose. Not only can they quickly "fix"the fleet, the single fleet attracts a lot of attention from enemy fleets. With your battle fleet nearby to join the single vessel in battle, you can sweep the seas of your enemies without ever moving from your spot. Great for coaxing enemies out of a harbour too.
    Just make sure it's a vessel that can quickly get to the safety of the main fleet. Steamships are my preferred method, though sloops or some type of galley will do.

    Third rates cause the same problem with CTD.

    I never build second rates and only one first rate for the prestige. The same now with steamships since they have been rendered useless as short ranged carronade vessels.

    I don't have the problem of a fleet CTD. I can build fleets of first, second and third rates. But I suffer from some lag when I click on a fleet. My solution is to add a sloop to all my fleets. This reduces the lag considerably.
