Can't set up for modding...getting frustrated

I've been following the tutorial mentioned here...

I have tried both methods he has described.
But all that ever happens when I try and run the mod is the game crashes. I have deleted descr_geography_new.db and descr_geography_new.txt like I'm supposed to. Worse, the crash results in me having to reinstall (and repatch) the game and I'm really getting quite tired of it. If anybody can provide advice, I'd be most appreciative.

Unfortunately I'm not running either. But I'll take a look anyway.
