I'm aware of these but those can't be considered as 'aces'. I doubt we will be able to get aircraft reconnaissance our entire route. I will be incredibly thankful if we can get air support close to Gibraltar.
Secondly, if enigma messages are flying around about our position, than we lost our most valuable advantage already. Besides, by the time the messages are decoded and relayed to us, the wolfpack could've already assembled.

I like the fact we are playing things close to the vest, with the technoligical disadvantge we are at we can't afford anything flashy right now, and while it is true we planes aren't they notuiorsly bad at catching subs?

I say wait until the Germans make a mistake, remember they have to come after us
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

1,000th post - and where better than on my old friend Franconius's latest IH

I think we have our tactics right as per Fischerking's post, but we have to consider the route. Our departure from Gib will be noted by agents in Spain so I would suggest we throw them off the scent by going South or South West until well out of sight of land and then come round to North West to put us a minimum of say 200 miles off the Spanish coast before heading for Liverpool. What do you all think?

How will you communicate at sea, esp. at night?

Flag signals, light signals, and short ranged FM radios for combat communications. VHF for air to sea.

Longer range AM is only emergincy communications with home.

FM has no skip and offers voice com. in line of sight from the tallest point on the ship.

    Low Power 7 mi

    High Power perhaps 30 mi
    but more likely 12 mi.

Seems logical. The only problem arises when we approach Gibraltar. They know we're going there so we have little chance avoiding them there (they aren't stupid, they will be there). In other words unless we have a plan on avoiding /defeating a pack of U-boats on the Gibraltar approach, all the rest of our measures will have been in vain.

Phil - we start from Gib, that is why I suggest we feint south to throw them off our tracks. The U boats will not be close to Gib - too many planes etc - but agents will watch from just over the border and report a large convoy leaving.

One tactic we have not mentioned is the fake attack - at night several escorts go off from the convoy - say 5 miles and mock up an attack - loads of snowflake, depth charges etc. The U boats see that and move towards it thinking it must be another boat attacking the convoy, pulling them away from the real convoy. probably only to be used when we think subs are near. Shall we add this to our arsenal?

We have to rely on air patrols and our own patrol craft to keep them clear of the convoy.

Hugging the south coast and moving like we are heading to southern Africa is a ruse we can pull off.

There is no route 100% safe.

Indeed, keeping all other security in place.

And apparently I fail at reading the description. My apologies.

That tactic seems to make sense. How fast can we be upon the would be attacker?

The Axis team obviously gave up. So our little "two party" experiment failed.
Shall we make it a conventional game? I could make a new chapter next week!

I was wondering what was delaying things.

    That’s a shame.

I am up for a bit more if anyone else is.

edit: I guess it is okay now to read what they were up to and see how well would have done...

That's a shame - I was really warming to this. I was looking forward to inflicting a resounding defeat on the German wolfpack led by Admiral Warmann

Franc it would be great to continue somehow - Fischer and myself would play if nobody else!!

The game is transfered to "the invisible enemy" now. It is still a two side game, but the German part is played by real Germans from outside! Everybody can join, just jump into the game and give your point of view. You can compete with real Krauts!!!!
