HAIKU MAFIA III
THE PROSEN THRONE
We return to the Uesugi Haiku Academy in the middle of the Boshin War. Imperial Armies have stormed through southern and central Japan, seizing Edo from the Tokugawa Shogunate, whose government have fled north through Uesugi to Ezo (Hokkadio), along with an army of Shogunate loyalists. Of course, a normal Haiku Academy would have no part in the politics of Early Modern Japan, and the Uesugi Academy certainly didn’t want to play a part either. But, politics and war have blasted through the door of the Academy into the poets’ lives. Shogunate Loyalists captured and took over the academy to use as a headquarters to manage the retreat of their army to the North, to the great distress and discontent of the poets.
A few days after the Academy had been requisitioned, the Academy inhabitants’ awoke to find that the Captain in charge of the Shogunate troops stationed in the Academy had been impaled into the floor by a bayonet! Alongside it was a note:
“As two we write
In one leader do we trust
For the Emperor!”
Snarling in rage, the Deputy of the Captain bellowed that all the poets were now prisoners. It was clear to him that at least two of the poets were traitors to the Shogunate and had to be snuffed out! However, since he recognised that he would not be able to recognise those with Imperial sympathies, it was decided that each day, the poets would vote for the one who they thought most likely to be a traitor to the Shogun, and deliver him to the troops to be executed.
This is the Third in a tradition of Haiku Mafia games on the .Org*. This is like any other mini game, but with an important twist:
Rules: In addition to the usual Vote/Unvote, you may only speak in Haiku format, which is a short poem with a syllable rhythm of 5-7-5. For example, a typical post might be:
All posts must be in that format. No longer, no less. One poem is allowed per post**, although multiple posts are allowed. Edits are allowed only to correct syntax. Neither No Lynch nor Abstain are allowed, as I hate them and people who use them. Private communication is not allowed, as I can't be sure if you're haiku-ing or not. Besides, there shouldn't be any need. I would prefer it if you could mention the name of the person you are unvoting, as it makes tallying easier.Vote:Subotan
