Question about patches for RTW and mods

I have EB installed over RTW v1.5 and I have also installed Barbarian Invasion in a subdirectory. I want to upgrade BI to 1.6 in order to install Invasio Barbarorum, but I don't know if the patch works only for BI or it upgrades the whole game (and so it may cause troubles with EB).
So, have I to make a copy of the directory of RTW in order to avoid conflicts, or can I proceed without fearing anything?

IIRC the RomeGold version is patched to 1.6 from store and this works fine.
If you want to be sure, backup the folder.

The 1.6 patch for BI doesn't effect RTW which can never get higher than 1.5.
