Apparently my mistake when I tested the organ gun was I gave the Byzantines some cavalry. They ripped through the organ guns like they weren't even there.

    WOW Those are cool Lord.

LOL I like the sequence of events leading up to the boiled general. Do they wooden structures actually catch fire when the arrows hit ?

Boiling oil really cooks your guys fast. There are about 3 or 4 pours of oil in quick succession, then a break, then it starts again - far better to batter the gate from a distance On wooden forts i've noticed the guys inside throw a flaming torch of some sort although it would make more sense for the guys outside to be building a fire against the gate (maybe thats what this represents). Anyone else seen this and what is it ?

Sadly, wooden structures don't burn, they just steadily collapse like in MTW

But huts and houses do catch fire and burn for a while. The smoke billows up and is affected by the wind. I've yet to run into a castle with the boiling oil. Very cools shots Marcher.

As for wooden forts, I've only seen guys on the outside throwing torches. BTW, aside from the wooden walls, ordering your men to attack a building to destroy it seems a very slow way to do it in VI. I've had 2 units of Vikings attack a hut for 5+ minutes and only put in 10%-20% damage at the most. The archers and their flaming arrows do the job in a few volleys against huts.

One thing I wish building destruction would entail would be the ability to walk over the ruins of small buildings like huts and houses. That would give an incentive to MP attackers with buildings obstructing their missile walls, etc.

When you order a unit in MTW to attack a building it also throws torches. So this is not a new feature.

Gregoshi - yeah, after looking at a gate bash again I can see the torches are thrown by the guys attacking - thanks for clearing that up. The boiling oil shots were taken purely as a test in a custom battle to get the screenshots and not in a real campaign. I much prefer to batter a castle with artillery from a distance

Yeah, this is a really good Idea. I've actually found myself with an incentive to assault fortresses now.

I haven't done any sieges yet. My Viking's idea of a siege is to have lunch before they storm the fort.

    lol

every stone castle has boiling oil.

usualy u loose whatever ubit u try and take the gate with.

but after the oil has killed one of my units it doesnt seem to pour on the unit that takes it place a minute afterwards.

PS. those jomsking guys r bloody invincible.

of course when a routing peasent took one of my beloved jomskings to hell with him i executed 2000 of his friends in a fit of rage.

hmm i wonder if u get jomies in MP if so muahahahahha

The GREAT Beserkers, can anything be more Viking than this ? Fierce, Fast, Tough, VERY reliable in battle.
In this shot they hit a 100 man unit of spears from 3 sides. You can see what is left of that unit by the arrow. The General unit was just close by in case something went wrong. I have had valor 6-8 Hashishin in MTW, but it took ages to achieve that status. With Beserkers, I already have a unit at Valor 6 after 4 raids .

Hey, Sinan nice pics about the Hungarian special units

Are they any good in the battle? I have seen that the Szekely cavs got a quite high kill counts.

The Jobbagy are what seems to be improved Murabiteen, for the Hungarians. In that battle the did ok and were used in conjunction with 1 Chiv Sarge, to hold the enemy, Jobaggy firing javelins in suppport, and finally Szelky coming in from behind.

I did not manage it that well, but the Szelky are fast enough horse archers which seem to have a decent melee as well. I like them, can't offer much more info at this stage, will do stat analysis eventually.

Great shots Sinan. That screen shot of the beserkers heading my way sent me packing out of the room. I'm afraid the few beserkers I've trained have been badly mis-managed by me. In my current campaign I'm making a second batch and will try to do better with them.

These are camel Faris I thought it was an ok shot, so included it too

2 Faris lure out a CMAA unit, in classic tactic

The red arrows indicate missile fire. On the right, mortar rounds,on the left the Faris begin firing

The CMAA are isolated and enclosed
