How bad is it for playing online? Thanks.
How bad is it for playing online? Thanks.
It's actually good.
Shall not be a problem.
What might be a problem is your computer, graphic card, etc...
Run a custom game in single player at 4v4 default unit size; if it runs ok, then a stable 56k won't be an issue.
Louis,
yeah i been playing on 56k since way back in the days of shoggy and aint had no problems yet

Yes I have just started mixing it up in Multiplayer on a 56K, and it runs fine... I was actually quite surprised at how well it flowedOriginally Posted by [b
Sadly no sooner had I started than I gave up on multiplayer for being too busy. Oh well such is life

Most of my games have been played on a 56k, no problem. Just had to remember to watch for the 2hour connection time.
Now I have adsl so no worries.

yeah its funny after living here for over three years without ADSL we finally get our exchange enabled... But as we will probably be moving this year there's no point in getting it as its a one-year minimum subscriptionOriginally Posted by [b

Hi The_Emperor
If you want ADSL on a monthly contract check out v21.co.uk.

So do you have to pay extra when you disconnect from their service in less than a year?
I know PIPEX do their service on a Monthly contract system like V21, But you have to pay a fee to be disconnected in less than a year.
Thanks Jochi

Or you could try metronet.co.uk who have a 3 month contract. The cost of the rental is based on how much bandwidth you use during the month (min £11 up to 200Mb, max £28 unlimited). Of course if you do a lot of MP you'll be stiffed for the full amount, but there you go.
(PS: they installed my ADSL within 3 days of me ordering it)
i pay for 2meg cable from blueyonder telewest at £40ish a month.
but im not too annoyed cos i get 2.5 meg cos no1 else in my town has it so all the extra bandwidth gives me a boost.
(ive ran several several several speed tests)

Can't find anything in my contract that says you have to pay extra for terminating in less than a year.
Just have to give ONE months notice.
Check out their site at www.v21.co.uk for all the information you need.
At £19.99 a month....value for money.

Alright I got my equipment for ADSL through yesterday, aparrantly this Saturday is the activation date for me.
Sadly I'm going to have to connect through a router though, (I'm not the only one who is going to be using the connection) so it remains to be seen if I can host any games. (I will have a fixed IP from them though)
Oh well at least the lag will be gone
"Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it."
Fixed IP: another reason to have a router, unless you have several machines and wouldn't mind if one is strictly used for gaming (that gaming machine could be placed on DMZ).

Alright guys, i am online with broadband... let the fun begin
"Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it."
what's going to happen with RTW??? will it be possible to play online with a 56k????
has anyone heard anything about this?
I am not sure, I hope it will.Originally Posted by [b
Also I want to know if RTW will work with a Firewall and Router. Its a real shame that I can't host in MTW because of that
"Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it."
Can't you set up a DMZ or a NAT pass-through for MTW, or even just open the right ports? Mind you I haven't tried it myself so it may not work.Originally Posted by [b
Perhaps someone in the Apothecary would know?
you'll need to watch when your hosting a game
i got hit by the blaster worm a few week's back
always make sure you virus\worm software is up-to-date if you're hosting with broadband\dsl or with any other type of fixed IP service's.
