Am I to attack, or is Kyodai the attacker?

On the one hand... I am the one going through the territory held by the bandits... and should be the attacker. On the other hand... the bandits are the ones ambushing me. :) and should be counted as being the attacker... ::scratches head::

Thanks for declaring your army, Bach and Shaka. I'll post them up on page 1 as soon as I can.

Amatsu and KyodaiSteeleye, you should now have all info to do the mission. I will be away this weekend, so I wont be able to join the fun . But I am sure you will manage fine.

Actually, Guy has come up with a good suggestion on handling the peasants:

Or easier still a person can be enlisted (buddy,M8) at the time of the battle in the forum. People are always interested in viewing abattle firsthand. The mercenary would get a person to handle the peasant unit.
I like this idea of a bring-a-friend party
It would be up to the Merc to organize someone to come along. It could be anyone, even someone invited from the lobby on the battle day should work fine. Only if he cant find someone, he'd have to go with 15 units and command the peasants himself.

Well, for this mission it is no prob anyway, as none of the players have more than 15 units yet. So that should work out fine.

Hmm, ok, most players now have declared their armies.
Some have been bold spenders, while others have tried so save up enough to pay for the first month's wages.

So far, only Chimpyang has not overspent. Sulla and Shaka hit it very unlucky beeing only 10 and even 3 Florins short of breaking even.

Well, owing to the fact that this is all new to all of us and I didn't really give you guys a chance to work out your support cost beforehand, I am thinking of giving credit this first month and allowing you to go into the negative without suffering for it.

I will also try to tidy up my Excel spreadsheet and send it around to everyone as soon as I can.

But most of all, I think more missions are needed #
    So here you go:

    -------------------------------------------------------------- Mission #2 ------------------------------------------------------

This time I want to sell 100 boxes of silk on the market of Bamberg. The silk is worth 14 Florins a box and will again be carried by a group of (v4) peasants.

As the area is frequented by bandits, I am looking to hire one or two mercenary groups for protection and will pay a fee of 300 Fl for each group. For successful delivery I will also pay a bonus of 600 Florins. However, only one bonus sum will be payed out and if two mercenaries sign up, they will have to share it.

There are reports of two different bandit gangs in the area, and the brave men who sign up may encounter either of them, or even both.

Signed up as Mercenary : Axeknight and Chimpyang
Signed up as Bandit : Sulla and Dionysus

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------

This is a mission for 1 or 2 Mercenaries and 1 or 2 Bandits.
The first player who signs up can choose if he wants to share the mission with another player of if he wants all the profit (and all the risk) for himself.

    Map details are :
    hillyinland09.
Spring, Western European, 60 min, Mercenaries = attackers.

Oh, and I think it would make sense to say that players can only do one mission at a time.
So all except Amatsu and KyodaiSteeleyes can sign up here.

Ill take the mission as a bandit, and Ill share it.

btw, now also the guys who overspend up to 400 florins get away with it ? or only us with such cash?

Well, Sulla, the cerdit was intended to ease the hardship of people which is incurred through the relative confusion, which always accompanies the start of such a game - in this case mainly the careful spenders. I would think that the fact that other people profit from it as well is not so much of an issue. The money has still to be payed back after all.

That said, it is certainly not intended to be a licence for heavy overspending. So I wouln't want to see the last 2 players spend all 3500 Florins now

I would just hate to sink anyone right from the start without even having had a chance to do a mission.

In that sense, gald you've signed up and glad you are sharing your mission

I will be breaking even though, after tomorrow when I rendevous with Kyodai. :) I did take the money I'd get for taking the mission, and just my luck... the 400 up-front will give me 7 left over regardless of the outcome.. phew, hehe. Now, it's just a matter of earning the extra 200... ;)

::pouts:: I want to make mission 2 also... hehe, but it is only fair that I step aside for a mission or two. I'll be back and ready to go for mission four though

if there will be one or two bandits, does it depend on how many mercenaries will sign up?
i think would be hard for a single mercanary against two bandits...

    Hey Nigel,

Kyodai and I have complete mission#1... an embarassing failure at the hands of the mercenaries. (Me) I failed to deliver the goods to I still can't remember where... maybe that is why Amatsu failed? Hehe... either way, I believe Kyo has a logfile he'll be sending you. And if anyonee wants, I have a replay of the mission saved.

It started off simply enough... Guy and I (Guy was who I enlisted to take the peasants) saw a hill on the left, that I wanted to take for a position to move forward. Kyo saw this though, and was going to get there first. My plan thrwated I decided to take the far tall hill on the right... and hoped to set up and create a shield against Kyo so that Guy could slip by our lines and make his way to the edge of the map. Kyodai rushed quickly back and matched my movement... as I started to climb the hill, my men complained about being tired, and so did Kyodai's. So we both agreed to let them sit and rest for a moment... (hehe, Guy had a phone call and had to go afk, so rather than set up then wait for him to return, we both agreed to just halt all movements with our army as they were... ;) Will look funny on the replay). I took the hill on the far right, and hesitated on how to set my army up to face Kyodai. This would prove to be my un-doing... With me ordering Guy to hug the right wall (and to remain out of the redzone, to avoid the known exploit)... and Kyodai setting up across on a small incline across a smaller valley and cutting off any lane of travel... I decided there was no other choice but to charge Kyodai, face him going up a small slopeing hill... and hope to plow through and route his army... then escort the peasants the rest of the way. The battle was hard fought.. I hit his right flank hard, and routed his weakling highlanders (there can be only one), and I believe a unit of Feudal Men at Arms... however, after that, my missile units caught by a melee charge, started to waver, as did my middle and left flank. It didn't look good from here, so I ordered Kyodai to just take off left, hoping to buy him some time for him to get around Kyodai and haul ass towards the goal. This, would not come to pass though... my army routed and eliminated from the battle as Guy passed into my middle area. Kyo's cav swept in from seemingly all sides, followed by the rest.. and started to slaughter the peasants and pillage the silk. The day was lost, and Amatsu and his loyal band of troops mourned their losses, and found their way off the field. I reassured them, we were still getting payed 400 florins for taking the mission... just we lost some good men, and a potential 200 bonus. They were saddened, but after a stirring speech, they all agreed that they can not wait to face Kyodai again and avenge their fallen comrades Guy reported after the battle that he had only lost 20 peasants... but the battle ended because they routed also, and my army was already out of the picture. So I do believe, as the peasants were pretty much surrounded and had no way to escape, that Kyodai should be awarded 50-100 kills for the peasants.

All in all, it was fairly enjoyable, and can't wait until my next mission. :)

"so I ordered Kyodai to just take off left, hoping to buy him some time for him to get around Kyodai and haul ass towards the goal."

Oops, that should read, so I ordered GUY.. not Kyodai... hehe... I wish I could have ordered Kyodai off the map and taken the goods and run.

Also Nigel, do you have an e-mail... I have a rather interesting idea that I want to pass by you. :)

Thanks for a good battle Amatsu.

Although i managed to get me hands on the silk (mmm, NIIICE), i failed to destroy one of the more unfortunate mercenary FMAA companies - which escaped with 3 men (naggnnfragn ). (i was looking forward to a nice ransom..)

My men have complained about having to run up and down hills chasing mercenary armies that think they can outmanouver us. I told 'em to stop eating so many pies (no pleasing some people - they'll get PAID after all, what more do they want?).

Nigel - as in PM - can't work out how to send you the logfile - please advise.

    Greetings everyone,

after a weekend in the 21st century I am now back to the big oaken desk in my study in Twynham Castle.
I am glad to see that things have been quite busy here.
    Some catching up to do.

    - Amatsu, Kyodai and Guy

What terrible and ill fate has befallen my shipment to Turnovo. The business in Bulgaria, it seems, is completely lost . Amatsu, I am just glad you returned with your life. You faught bravely indeed and the 400 Fl shall be yours as promised. My poor peasants. They are faithful and loyal servants, but they are no heroes. So when the mercenaries fled and they were cornered, they handed over the goods to save their lives. And Kyodai captures the whole shipment (it was linen, btw, not silk. Maybe, Amatsu, if you pay more attention to the location AND the goods you will be more successful next time ).

Well done, all three of you. I am glad you had fun.
For logfile and replay, I will send my e-mail address around by way of PM. Not that I don’t trust this forum, but I am getting so much spam these days, and I am really tired of receiving offers of money loans, viagra and methods to enlarge, ohh gah. Anyway it will be in your private messages shortly.

    - Sulla, Dion, Axeknight and Chimpyang,

Wellcome to mission #2. I see you are already starting to make the battle arrangements.
    Good Luck and Have Fun.

    - octavian

Wellcome to the game. I hope you will have fun watching this. And of course, when new places open, you can come in. Meanwhile, if you like, you can give me a hand with some missions. I have some mission ideas, which would require a "guest-player", i.e. some 3rd party army. Keep watching this space and I may ask you to come in for a battle sometime.

    - Shaka,

you are quite right, but I think for this game we will have to get away from the idea, that all battles will be "fair" in the sense that both sides have an equal chance of winning the actual fighting. After a few missions we will have rich players with strong armies and less rich players with weaker armies and there will be no question of who will eventually rout the other in the battles. The real question will rather be : how much money can the bandits steal before they are forced to run or how many goods can the mercs get across to savety before they are defeated.

Nigel, could you please send your e-mail addy to mine (chirotera@aol.com). :) and lol... linen, silk... it's all the same to Amatsu... It's a good thing I have good right hand men that can point me in the right direction for delivery... they handly the details.. I just go and lust for blood. :)

Still.. Amatsu is shamed by his loss... and will look to mend his 'good' name.

And while four of us are getting ready to fight over a delivery of silk, here comes the next mission :

    -------------------------------------------------------------- Mission #3 ----------------------------------------------------

A large shipment of wood is waiting to be brought to Colongue as building material for the new cathedral. At 3 Florins apiece, wood is not exactly the most expensive commodity, but there are 400 logs waiting for shipment. I am looking for one mercenary to escort my peasants; and again I will pay 800 Fl for signup and another 400 Fl for successful completion.

Although it is only building materials, the bandits still have their eyes on my shipment and one of them may also try to get his hands on it.

Signed up as Mercenary : Guy
Signed up as Bandit : Shaka

    Mission completed
    The replay is here..

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------

Another 1v1 mission, this time with 400 peasants
    Increased mission value

    Map details are :
    hillyinland05.
Summer, Western European, 60 min, Mercenaries = attackers.

If neigther of you can, I would try to host (and take command of the peasants). Or maybe some other player can

Meanwhile, I have now managed to bring that Excel spreadsheet for calculating army support cost up to a point where it is halfway userfriendly. If anyone is interested, drop me an e-mail and I will send it.
