we could conquer the map if we wanted to, probably just in time before the GH appears. But I'll leave that decision to the next King (Tricky Lady, Xiahou or new volunteer).

I had to restrain myself from attacking during my reign because I wanted to accumulate as much wealth as possible King Charles had hard sums virtue and I figured he would like to add up lots of money. I propose The Rich as his nickname.

Personally I like to take it slow and maybe get to some higher units. If I get a turn again at this, I want to experiment with the Toulouse Chiv Knights, some halberds and assassins in a full frontal assault on the horde when they show up.

I do think one problem with starting a campaign on early is that you finish too soon before higher units are available and the game becomes one of mass production of mid-level units. Which is why I am interested in your byz PBM (which, BTW, I think is too tough ).

    cheers,
    afrit

Yea well just watching all the other PBM's where the players pizzown the AI by 1092 got me mad and thinking about how to make it harder.

    hello guys,
I will be off for two weeks, so I will not be able to play a reign in this PBEM.
I'll check in two weeks if there's still a piece of the cake left for me...

Sorry to hear TL cannot go next.
I will wait for a new volunteer for a couple more days, and then if no one joins, I will reopen the game to the initial players (Chimpyamg, Simon, lonewolf) on a first come-first serve.

BTW, I did post my writeup in the chronicle thread. I'm working on pictures to be added.

    cheers,

    Hello
It seems that there is still some room for me to play a reign in this PBEM, right? (didn't read the write-ups yet).
You can add me to the pool again if you don't mind. I'll try to play this week.

Okay guys, first of all sorry but I've been really too busy these last weeks to even *think* of MTW...

It seems that this week promises to be calmer, so I assume I will have some time to play this French reign...

Anyway, thanks for your patience. I'll try to get back with a modest write-up later this week.

    ...hopefully...

    Hi guys
I've played the period 1191-1200, and things are going fairly well (thanks to my predecessors).
Just got a question to you. My gameplay is usually kinda cautious (understatement). I've read that someone posted that conquering the whole map before 1250 is possible (which is true IMHO). Now this is a GA game. Are we abandoning the GA concept, and heading for the total conquest, or are you okay if I just cautiously launch a crusade here and there, and try to pick some (valuable) land from our sworn enemies (HRE i.e.).
I am not going to conquest the entire map within this king's reign, but if you wan t me to, I can give start steamrolling Europe...

Unless we use an ian switch the game will get pretty boring about now, if we conquer the map we might be able to switch to a RTW PBM sometime soon. It's your choice though, if you wanna play around with the Byzantines by sending mass peasant armies against them and see how long they can stand be my guest.

It's all up to you TL. THis is why I like PBM's. They don't end up like my own games (where I basically steamroll).

I don't know if we will get any more challenging GA's. If not, then you should make up a GA for your king based on his V&V's, be it modernizing the army in anticipation of a nice juicy golden horde battle ,or becoming insanely rich (>1 million) or finishing off particular enemies .... As long as the writeup ends up interesting (yours always are )

We'll probably manage one more reign before RTW pushes all previous PBM's into oblivion And that may be enough to finish the map if needed.

    have fun.

OK, as the clock hits almost 1205 I'll go for the modernisation of the French army, and I'll try to be a pious ruler and conquer as much territory as possibly by launching Crusades.

    Thanks Emperor.

A small update: I've sent crusades to Byzantine provinces in Minor Asia and Cyprus, and added them to the realm. A few provinces (Armenia and Rum) were taken by the regular forces.
I suffered one (not massive, but still a biggie) defeat in Egypt when I tried to wipe out the Germans colony, but alas my arrogance (or was it the general's arrogance? ) caused a bad defeat. [Note: I think it was a combination of both an arrogant attack (=rushing straight forward) and some bad commanding or morale-affecting general's vice; anyway, just to say that I lost, lol]
Luckily our economy is healthy (very healthy) and I could easily replenish the French garrison in the Sinai, and fight a "trench war" with the Germans now.

No, but the campaign (at least my part) will be finished very soon. Just been too busy with other stuff then MTW recently.

I guess it's OK if I settle for the 60% victory, as I assume that no-one's picking this campaign up after me?

That's great. If you get to the 60% victory, then go ahead and end the game. Would be nice if you save a screenie of the victory screen (I have never seen the French one). Then I'll put together all the writeups in the dynasty thread (there were some typos introduced with the board change that I'll correct).

If you don't get to 60%, I'll continue the game, probably to 100% .

Then I'll go back to practicing the demo in preparation for RTW

I've accepted the lesser victory. I had to put down a few (tiny) rebellions in almost the whole of Middle East (rebellions in each province from Anatolia down to Syria and Tripoli). I lost Georgia to the rebels though.
When I invaded Ireland, the lesser victory end screen popped up.
(BTW, sorry afrit I've forgotten to F2 the French victory screen; just realised I should've done that when I read your last post)
King Jean III ended as an Über-King, with maxed stats everywhere, except command and dread, both 8. This was the first I played such a superking...
I'll prepare & post a few screenies later...

...and finally the 60% of the map that the French kings conquered from 1087 tot 1220:

Egypt was conquered by a German crusade, and became rebel when I started taking some HRE provinces on the main land. Just when I wanted to invade the lousy rebel province the Egyptians re-emerged with an insanely huge army, so I left them alone.

The English couldn't keep it. I conquered England (Wales, Mercia, Northumbria) in the last years of my reign. Planned to invade Scotland after conquering Ireland, but when Ireland fell I got the 60% victory screen.

It was a good PBM, but it appears RTW has now taken over all... No more focus on MTW it appears.
