The short cut key for run, hit it once for run, again to make units walk again.

Yeah you never could make your running men walk before short of cancelling the order and issuing it again.

Too bad your men can no longer change unit formations on the move anymore.

MTW has that too. I was so smart to assign it to the L, which is of course the default for an important formation when under fire

Using the key is better than the doubleclicking toggle, a dedicated key for run would be even better for me (not a togglekey).

hummm STW MTW no their was not a way to make men that were running return to walk mode short of halting and re-organizing them, this was much discussed long ago.... as for 'no it dosent' if they are exhausted they dont run no matter how many times you hit 'run', so if they wont run they wont go back to 'walk'.
