A few years back i saw a movie called

Heaven and Earth

and it was fuedal japan, sorta kurosawa in epic scope, but not by him. looked for it, can't find it, although there's some movie by the same name about the vietnam conflict. anybody else ever seen it? or know where i can get it? (did a few browser searches and nothing.)

I've seen Heaven and Earth quite a few times. (Its 'Ten to chi to' in Japan and was directed by Haruki Kadokawa). In my experience, its not TOO hard to find for rental, but buying it outright is a bit expensive - I have only seen it retailing at about 70 bucks (I'm assuming this is due to distribution concerns or something like that). I just saw it on an Ebay for a mere 15 bucks, however: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...item=483231149

I'm not sure if you use ebay or not, but you'd never find a better price then that.

I recorded it from television. They broadcast it occasionally.

I thought it was only average at the time, but I wish I had it now to see it again, because I know more about the historical situation depicted.

I saw Kagemusha on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) on cable just a week ago at 2am. IFC is associated with the Bravo channel. I think this topic was discussed in the old Sword Dojo and someone mentioned Heaven and Earth being played on Bravo every now and then. Every Sunday I scan the TV listings for Bravo. I'd do the same for IFC if it was in my TV listings - otherwise I would have recorded Kagemusha!

I think my recording of Heaven and Earthwas from a Bravo broadcast, too.

I haven't watched that channel in a while. Do they break from a movie for commercials? They didn't used to.
