So with the advent of this new addition to STW I'm curious about how it all fits into feudal Japan.
Some people have made allusions to gameplay over "realistic" history, or at least the STW timeline. Is it a reversal of what happened? Assuming the Mongol scene happened way before 1530, what units does this make historically inaccurate?
    Thanks.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask what a Kensai is, either.

I refer you to the "Potentially historically correct scenarios" thread for more info, but in short:

What we assume about the Mongol Invasion campaign is that the Mongols will be able to establish a foothold in Japan and rampage across the isles. This is not historically correct in the sense that they were actually defeated earlier, in the invasion phase à la Dieppe, but that doesn't mean the MI scenario wouldn't be historically possible. Kind of like the Mongol Invasion *without* the kamikaze.

About units: No-Dachi Samurai actually come into their own here, since they were really used extensively in the late Kamakura period (well, admittedly only after the Invasion), unlike in the Muromachi period where the original STW is set. Warrior monks were also more plentiful during Kamakura, and it's conceivable they would have fought with the Hôjô Bakufu to save the nation.

But I'll let someone who knows more than I to explain the Kensai.

If you have RealPlayer there is an interesting 8 minute lecture on the Mongol Invasion of Russia here, complete with a handy quiz for afterwards.

Well, I would suggest looking at Seal's site and look under the time period of the Hojo Regency (I use regency here as opposed to Bakufu just out of preference). Any info you find there will be of about the mongol invasion time period. also, I have never heard of Kensai, but that doesn't mean too much.

hey, we need Kahn to get in here a bit now so that he can help up with mongol history in Korea and the Japanese adventures.

Magy actually has his own Mongol history site, (though it's much lesser known that Forests).

It's such a fascinating culture that I am tempted to make a new forum for Mongol History, but with your permission Zen I think we'll just keep the Mongol History topics here, and give this "Japanese History" forum a more diversified scope.

    -Is that okay with everyone?

    ......
might as well just change the forum's title to history and cinema (in general). With an emphasis on japanese-related history and cinema. maybe classic cinema or something....

Changing the exact nature of the forum is fine with me, but I definitely think all the history-related topics should be under one forum and not separated.
