The first page has been update (faction list and map screenshots)
The Galatian faction preview, made by Atilla Reloaded (a la EB) :

Greetings to the community and those, who are interested in The Successors - Total War mod.

From the times when I began to work on public, I decided to make previews of Factions of TSTW. For now we have several factions close to be comlete. Galatians are the first to have a special topic, showing what will be this faction in release.
I don't know if I could make on preview each week as Europa Barbarorum, so this is still a question.

    So, Let us begin.

Galatians are the only celtic faction used in our mod. They are different from other celtic cultures in vanilla RTW. In fact, they are aliens in Alexandrian greako-eastern world, who brought another spirit with them. Unlike other natives of lesser asia, they were very strong warriors and every king was proud of having galatian mercenaries in his army. From Thrace to Egypt Galatian mercs were widely used in armies of Alexander's Sucessors. Galatians used more armor and heavy weapons than wester celts due to their small numbers.

Homelands and settlement area of celts.

The word "Galatian" was " galatae" on greek and "galli" on latin, means "Gaul" or just "celt".
When ages of flooding in north Europe began, huge mass of celts moved south to north Italy, Spain and Greece. The Galatians, as in the Galatians from the New Testament of the bible (Paul's Letters to the Galatians), were a group of Celts that migrated through the Balkans, pillaging as they went, attacking (but being defeated by) the Greeks, and eventually moving into Turkey. "Galatians" means " Gaul " on ancient greek, nothing more. Not only of celts who settled in greeke and asia, like romans called "Galli" all celts, who lived in the area of modern France. But no celtic nation called themselves "Gauls" or "Galatians", Halveti called themselves Halveti and Ambrons called themselves Ambrons, and so on.
In III century bc Pergamen king promised lands in the east of his kingdom for supression of a revolt. Two groups of 40.000 warriors each, followed by thousands and womens and children crossed the Aegan sea and settewled in those lands, known further as "Galatia". They recently prooved themselves as best warriors, and called attention of Great Powers of former Alexandrian empire.
Because of that, in middle II century BC Galatia gained full economical and diplomatical independence. But the down of celtic world came in the time of it's highest power. Glalatians were outnumbered. Too many celts were exported as mercenaries to all parts of hellenic empires. The wars of Successors in the end of II bc gave them twenty years of rest, but it was little time to avoid roman invasion. They passed through hellenisation during late II - I bc, and were romanised later. Last of Galatians were slaughtered by turks.
    Galatian army.

    Galatian skirmishers opening battle.
They were more furious than hallenic peltast, who often had to expirience of melle combat. Their light javelins allowed them to have more amunition on the battlefield and big woooden shields gave them superiority in pulling off enemy light troops.

    1) Galatian warchief standing on his cahriot and wathing his army marching.
    2) Galatian nobles, who could afford thamselwes to have chariot and horses accompany warlord. They have best mail and short spears to fight both on chariot and on foot.
    3) Spear warband. Carrying large, but poor-crafted shield and one heavy throwing spear, they form main line of early celtic army. Their flexibility and equipment allows them to successfully break enemy line, if used in big numbers.

    1) Galatian nobles. Using best chain mail and armor, having both spears and swords on their side, they form reserve of galatian warlord and could hold any enemy. Forced shields allso protect them from missiles. For the way they fight, Romans called them "mare gaestum" - the sea of spears.
    2) Warchiefs leading the column. Richness of thease peolple give them opotunity to have big iron shields and highly-crafted swords with them.

Galatian cavalry used thrusting spears and their superior expirience to gain victory against better - equiped hellenic cavalry.

    1) Seleucid thorakites trying to hold barbarian horde.
    2) Naked fanatics and heavy warband attaking seleucids. Naked fanatics fought with encanted swords and morale, forced by releigion, and, sometimes, narcotics. Only best infantry could hold the line after their charge.

    1) Galatians sieging hellenic city. Warlord plans assault of enemy walls in surrounding of his chosen swordsmans.
    2) Skirmishers trying to shoot down enemy archers and peltasts on the walls.
    3) Galatian late warband stand ready to rush into the city. Late warband, in fact, are closer to immitation legions, than to warbands. They fight in line and force their dicipline with long swords, big shields and javelins. They are less diciplined than other late line infantry, but more powerfull in charge.

    Screeshot from early version.

Warriors with big red shields are sword warband - the youngest warriors in the tribe. They could afford themselves only sword and bronze helmet. But, during battle campaigns, they gain wealth and equipment. If remains alive, of course.

Bactrian faction preview, by Atilla Reloaded :

Greetings The Successors - TW fans and members of the community.

We prepeared new preview of TSTW faction you could play in the game. This time it is Bactria. I had hesitated preview because I was buisy and to complete faction symbols and banners. As usual, you will receave full info about history and spirit of a single faction.

This Thursday TSTW team is proud to present you:

    History of Balkh (Bactria)
    By: Ramin Javid-Moshref

he Old Iranian name of Paktra, which the classical writers named it Bactria and their language was known as Bactrian, and after invasion of Iran by Arabs in 7th century CE it has come to be called Balkh; A northern province of Turkistan in modern Afghanistan, which boarders to the north, the river Oxus and the former USSR.

Not much has been known about this empire, only some coins and a little bit of writing and occasional archaeological artifacts. Much of the work on excavations of Bactrian artifacts has been done by French Archaeologists. Historians find remote references in other people's records about the kingdom.

It was from Bactria that came prophet Zarathushtra (Zartosht/Zardosht). Another source of spiritual home that made Bactria sacred was a great temple of the ancient Iranian goddess, Anahit (in Pahlavi or Middle-Persian) and Anahita (§£n§Óhit§Ó) in the Avesta hymns.

The temple was so rich that often it attracted the needy Syrian kings who sat out to plunder it. In her name and honor, in Armenia, girls prostituted themselves. Anaitis was a Scythian goddess, but she is identified also as Assyrian Mylitta, the Arabian Alytta and the Greek Venus Urania. Artaxerxes Mnemon, one of the emperors of Achaemenid dynasty was among her devotees. She is also associated with the Persian Mithra. Her association with Zoroaster adds to her popularity.

Bactria, by some writers, is called "the pride of Ariana". The ancient local citizen called it "Bactria the beautiful". Bactria was popular for its fertility. Besides Oxus, the Arius [modern Hari-rud] and a few other smaller river irrigate it. A large variety of fruits and vegetables grows here and excellent breed of sheep were raised in green Hindu Kush slopes. Bacteria is also known for its camels. Although they are rarely mentioned in history, they nevertheless played a significant role in shaping history. For example, the Parthians used these camels as ammunition carriers for their mounted infantry. Once were they ever celebrated in some coins. However, the most popular of the Bactrian animals is the Bactrian horse. This animal played a partial role in the reputation of Bactrian cavalry in the ancient world.

The once well watered land of Bactria and its fair climate has generally changed. The courses of the rivers have shifted, thus Bactria is not as glorious as it had been during the Macedonian occupation. The river Oxus once poured into the Caspian Sea, but now it flows into the Aral Sea. The modern city of Balkh [the old Bactrus], stood on the banks of this river, but now the city is a few miles away from the mighty Oxus.

Another feature of Bactria was the succession of mighty natural forts spread over the country, asserting to the traveler the safety and excellent strategical position of the city. As an example: when Antiochus the Great sieged Bactra, the Bactrians showed so much courage and stability - thanks to their location - that the king had no choice but to break the siege. Hence, the "siege of Bactra" in history is another way of saying stubborn resistance. When the Greeks came to Bactria [with Alexander], they were impressed by some features of Bactrian culture, namely clean and spacious suburbs. However, they were disgusted with the treatment of the dead. After the Achaemenian dynasty, especially during the Sasanian dynasty, the Zoroastrian religion required the bodies to be left exposed on a Dakhma [tower of silence] so that the birds of pray could eat them. On the other hand, dogs too ate the dead and they were considered sacred - to injure a dog was more offensive then man-slaughter, in the Vendidad. The streets were full of half wild dogs, and full of bone - presumably because they were the bones of the dead.

The original population of Bactria were largely Scythian. Apparently the Aryans who came over and took control, formed a military aristocracy over a technologically less developed people - as was the case with early Greeks, Romans and Gauls.

These people lived simple lives and were not effected by the luxury which spoiled the Persian Empire - they had the virtues of the true Persians. Their geographical location exposed them to all invaders, so they were in constant war. They also kept the worrier spirit alive.

Their long time enemy was the Scythians who lived to the north of Oxus and crossed over, from time to time, to loot the border villages. They were a free people; they resented an insult and very proud of the privilege of having a royal prince as their ruler. They fought for him to the last man, dying in honor, against the Greek invaders. In Persia, they were considered the most loyal subjects of the Empire. The Bactria's geographical location put them in an import strategic location put them in an import strategic location. Bactria was the center from which other parts of the empire could be checked. For example, Bactria was a block to the northern nomads, and a policeman in central Asia and had easy access to the northern, eastern and western provinces. Bactria was also a sacred place because of Zarathushtra raised from that land. It is also the home of the authorship of many of the oldest hymns of the Zand Avesta. Bactrians were also famous for proverbial sayings. One example is: when speaking of Alexander, a Bactrian chief said: "His bark is worse than his bite: for still waters run deep".

About four thousand years ago a collection of tribes known as the Aryans swept into South and West Asia - by a series of wave-like migration. Most historians divide there people into two groups, the Aryans and the Iranians [although they are all from the Aryan race]. First tribes were the Aryan tribe, which later were pushed down over the Paropamisus [mountains] into Punjab. The Iranians split into two sections, one section went West and founded settlements on the Tigris and Euphrates valley - which later became strong Kingdoms. Of this section, separated yet other tribes such as the Persians and the Medes. The Persians spread over the elevated lands of the Persian golf region. The Medes subdivided into smaller clans and occupied The land between the Caspian Sea to the land of Persis. The other section of the Iranians took the easterly direction. They also pushed the Aryans before them to the mountains and settled on the banks of the Oxus. They made Bactra {modern Balkh} their capital, and seized the ancient shine of Bactra. Forming an aristocracy over the local people they lived in isolation. They had a swift cavalry which suddenly attacked the enemy from the slopes and quickly retired to their strongholds.

The Aryans and the Iranians of Bactria, had a lot in common. They spoke the same language, worshiped the forces of nature, such as: Varuna, the shining Vault of Heaven; Mithra, the friendly light of the sun; Vayu; the wind that pushes aside the storms and clears the heaven; Yama, the primeval man, reigning over the blessed souls in paradise. The powers of nature, to them, were the signs of something far more deeply interfused. In their ceremonies they also drunk the sacred Juice, Soma. These two races slowly drifted apart as time went on, for not known reasons. Although the history of early Bactria is vague, the historians gather that as early as the second millennium BCE, a powerful confederacy, centered in Bactria existed in South Central Asia. The confederacy was created to survive the influences of powerful neighbors such as the Persians, the Medes and the non-Aryans (An-Iranian).

In 356 BCE, in Macedonia was born, to king Philip and Olympia's daughter Ophan Epirote prince, a son who was destined to over throw the feared Persia. Alexander, at age of twenty proved himself capable of commending in the battle of Thebes. From here he continued the preparation of the invasion of Persia, from where his father had left off.

In 334 BCE, Alexander's 30,000 infantry and 5,000 cavalry in the battle of Grunicus won a decisive battle and set the stage to conquer Asia minor. Darius, the Persian king, retreated battle after battle, losing ground to Alexander - who followed the running monarch city to city. Finally, the king become refugee in Bactria, where he was assassinated by his own people in the hope that Alexander would stop following Darius II. Nonetheless, Alexander did go to Bactria and killed the murderer. Bactra the sacred city and the capital of Bactria was the last of the Persian Empire's provinces to fall. In 328 BCE, while preparing for the conquest of Arabia, he died of malarial fever at the age of 32, in the Babylon desert. He left behind a great Empire which needed an Alexander to be organized into one nation.

Alexander's Empire fell into a war- zone for power. Three generals of Alexander took under their control, most of the Empire. They were Ptolemy, Antigonus and Seleucus. A whole series of events changed the shape of Asia. Constant war for power among Greeks converted most of Asia into a battlefield. I would like to skip over all that confusion and come to Diodotus I. He was a satrap stationed at Bactria. When the Seleucids became weak he became independent and remained so until his death in 230 BCE A high official of Diodothus I, Euthydemus, with the help of Queen's help came to power in 227 BCE He was the real founder of an independent Bactria. In 208 BCE the reigning Seleucid monarch Antiochus III gave his daughter to Euthydemus's son Demetrius. Euthydemus expanded his empire outward. He died in 189 BCE and his son Demetrius took power. He continued to expand his rule. He ruled over a great area. Unfortunately his expansion was too much for his army and his treasury. In 167 BCE a general of Antiochus Epiphanes [a Seleucid ruler], ruler of Syria and other Greeks, by the name Eucratides, invaded Bactria, defeated and killed Demetrius. Eucratides was probably killed by his son is 159 BCE and ruled it along with Parthia. Menander I of India came to power and ruled over India and later, Bactria. He was a great ruler. Menander died around 145 BCE Heliocles, a Greek of Asia minor came to claim Menander's throne, right after Menander's death. It was during this time that a horde from Central Asia over-run Bactria.

In the middle of third century BCE, Chin Shin Huang - Ti of the Chin dynasty reunited China and drove the nomads of outside the walls away. They moved Westward. The Yuch-Chi were defeated by Chins and Huns so moved Westward. Finally in 140 BCE, they over-run Bactria and Sogdiana. They left behind the Kushano-Sasanian dynasty of which, Kanishka is the greatest monarch.

Bactrian Army of early period contained from hellenics and natives. Not many people were brave enough to settle in thease lands. Mostly they were remainigs from Alexander's Indian campaign. Hellenics formed Agema - elite foot troops. Natives were videly used in Bactrian army, mostly not as slave-warriors, but as allies, such as Saka and Dahae tribes. As all eastern armies, Balch had wery flexible unis, able to fight both in foot and on horse.
Because of hard living and many enemies, greek colonists began to form their own militia - well traind guard that defeated prooved to be so forced, that seleucids broke the siege of Bactria.
After the battle on river Arksai, where bactrian cavalry prooved to be useless against heavy armed enemy, balch army was reformed. Now they were more armored and forced, saving custom flexibility of eastern warriors.

    Bactrian army on march
1)Bactrian Lancer march in avanguard to see the enemy first.
2)Elephants in the middle of formation. Thease beasts had wery good riders, hired in northern india.
3)Agema Phalanx for the backbone of the formation. Bactrian Agema could fight only on foot, unlike most of other warriors. As phalanx had only one aim - frontal attck on flat ground, Balch kings enlighted their equipment to make them fight in hillground..
4)Archosians guard back side of army. Archosians were commonly used as mercenaries or levies, thanks to their good abbility of horseriding and skirmishing.
    5) Eastern levies. Those poor bargans of local tribes had to fight first for Persians, and later, for Successors. But nothing changed to their living.

    Eastern Auxilia -
Thsose troops could fight in every condition and place - ambushing, skirmish and spped is their priors. But they allso could stand for themselves in hand-to-hand. Seen as skirmishers and auxiliaries with the heavy Greek infantry forming the battle line.

( Saka nobles and archosian javelinman )

The Baktrian cavalry under Greek rule is much the same as the Baktrian cavalry under the former Persian rule.
Mostly formed by nomadic and steppe cavalry. rmed chiefly with javelins these horsemen hail from Arachosia, Bactria, Sogdiana and similarly equipped light cavalry were also supplied by the levy from Persis and Media. Their flexible nature makes them well suited to the fluid, aggressive style of warfare so common on the eastern frontiers. Mounted on a swift horse, armed with nothing but a small crescent-shaped 'Taka' shield, short spear, and a handful of javelins these swift moving horsemen can be deadly. Their small, nimble ponies can negotiate most terrain easily, and they're capable enough to survive contact with the enemy, but their strength remains in maintaining their loose style of fighting.

( Bactrian Lancers and cataphracts. )
Bactrian Lancers form elite of Balch army. Thease are Iranian man trained to fight in hellenic armor and equipment. They are tough lancers; able to punch holes through most enemy lines, and are among the best cavalry of their type. They are armed with a long kontos and a bow, making them versatile heavy cavalrymen

Bactrian Light cataphracts. After suffering heavy losses to the Parthian and Armenian Cataphracts, the Seleucid and Bactrian empires produced their own versions of these heavy horsemen, both adapting the unit to Greek technology and using superior metalwork to make them even more heavily armored. They are armored in an expensive combination of lamellar armor and chain, with heavy felt sandwiched in the middle. The resulting armor is tough and flexible, but offers outstanding protection. They are to be used as heavy shock cavalry, and have staying power in melee because of the sheer weight of their armor. They are slightly heavier than their Parthian counterparts, but lack the deadly maces that the Parthians carry and also the ¨¦lan of their elite Parthian counterparts.

One of most deadly regionals in the mod - Indian longbows. Balch kings made them fight for kingdom. Bamboo longbow could launch arrow for hunderds meters and long sword helped to cut through people, like through bamboo. Those time there was no taktix of using them as special troops, like medeival english longbowman, so they were used only as skirmishers.

The Baktrians, not being a proper successor to Alexander¡¯s legacy, had no force of elite shock infantry to draw upon after their split from the Seleucid empire. To take the fortresses of their mountainous homeland, they were forced to develop such a force of heavy infantry. Armored in lamellar and scale, they are a force of heavy infantry to be reckoned with. They have stout iron greaves and helmets, and are armed with xiphoi and javelins. This infantry can be used as a shock assault infantry par excellence. They are best when right in the middle of the action.

Bactrian Elephants face with mercenary peltasts. Indian riders, hired by Balch kings gave them superiority over seleucid riders. Lack of equipment made them vulnerable, but they are still great power on the battlefiled, when wisely used.

Wow, the EB team must pale in comparison to your EB-style preview Such a pity modders' work is "wasted" by an Artificial (superficial?) farm-from-acceptable-Intelligence. Will you include the history part somewhere in the mod?

Default Re : Successors : Total War (former Diadochi Total War)

Yes, most probably (though Bactria won't be the Bactria that emerged around 270BC from the decating Seleucid Kingdom, we'll fix that later).

As I said on TWC, we'll try to make our mod as much historically accurate as possible, yet without forgetting the fun and coolness factor.

Anyway, in the meanwhile, another preview :

Greetings The Successors - TW fans and members of the community.

This time you could see preview of one of Major factions of TSTW - Antigonids. As they are one of five successors states, because of wich the mod started, this preview will give you full information about Antigonids.

This sunday TSTW team is proud to present you:

    History of Antigonos One-eyed.
Antigonos I Monopthalmus ¡®One-eyed¡¯ was one of Alexander's grizzled old veterans. He had lost an eye during Philip's siege of Perinthus, hence the nickname. He was left behind as Satrap (governor) of Phyrgia by Alexander when he marched to do battle with Darius at Issus and then besieged Tyre. During this period Antigonos fought no less than three battles against Darius' forces under Nabarzanes, and defeated them with the limited forces at his disposal. When Alexander died in 323 B.C. , Antigonos was nearing sixty years old but this didn't stop him from terrorizing his enemies for twenty more years!

He was a large man with a good sense of humor, his care for his troops made him a popular leader. When the wars of the Diadochi heated up he was able to defeat his arch rival Eumenes after a tumultous series of campaigns, and his central position in Phrygia kept the other factions at bay. With the aid of Demetrius his empire began to slowly recapture the dominions of Alexander, province by province. Eventually a mistake by Demetrius at Gaza led to a defeat that allowed Seleucus to break into the hinterlands where he captured Babylon and established power.
Finally by 301 B.C., Antigonos' enemies, Cassander, Seleucus, Ptolemy, and Lysimachus were able to join forces and defeated the Antigonid clan at the huge battle of Ipsus. Seleucus had bargained away portions of India for upwards of 500 elephants which were decisive in the battle. Trapped by the elephants, Demetrius was unable to save his father, who died hard at the head of his surrounded phalanx.

The defeat of Antigonos ended the last chance for one clan to reconstitute Alexander's empire, and signaled the beginning of the era of the Successor dynasties.

    Battle at Ipsus.

In 301 B.C. four Successor kings allied against King Antigonus the One-Eyed and his son Demetrius the Besieger. The allies were Ptolemy of Egypt, Cassander of Macedonia, Lisymachus of Thrace and Seleucus of Asia. Cassander had sent some troops to aid Lisymachus in his campaign against Antigonus, but the final battle that turned the tides happened when Seleucus joined the allied forces with 480 Indian elephants which he had acquired after his abortive campaign against the Indian king Chandragupta.

Antigonus and Demetrius held all the trumps, but Demetrius was overconfident. As he pursued the beaten allied left wing cavalry, he lost contact with the body of troops commanded by his father. Seleucus now used his mass of elephants with devastating effect, denying Demetrius to return to the line of battle. Antigonus died and Demetrius escaped. With close to 200,000 combatants in the field Ipsus is easily the greatest battle of the Diadochi era.

    Size
    Seleucid: 64,000 infantry, 15,000 cavalry, 480 elephants, 100 chariots.
    Antigonus: 70,000 infantry, 10,000 cavalry.

Antigonid's army relyes more on infantry and phalanx. Their Phalanx is the most powerfull in game, due to Antigonos's military genius and amount of veterans in his army. Satraps of Minor Asia provide them heavy and light cavalry. Allso in the time of Antigonos, this area became full of mercenaries and new tribes, summoned to serve Successors.

The most basic and numerous of the infantry units used by the non-European Successor States were the Pantodapoi infantry. These men were called from a variety of nationalities and were usually settled in certain areas for garrison duties and the like. There were Jews, Syrians, Cilicians, Persians, Assyrians, Native Egyptians, and many other peoples counted among their number. They are not particularly reliable soldiers, but they are certainly better than their eastern counterparts. They can give a good account of themselves in battle if deployed properly. They wear no armor, and have only a light shield for protection, so most other infantry will slaughter them in droves. They can fend off light cavalry for a time, if need be.

Ekdromoi (Outrunner) Hoplites are a special version of the Hoplite soldier. They fight without armor and heavy equipment in order to be fast enough to catch and kill skirmishers and especially peltasts, who were the bane of the heavily armored Hoplite. Their short spears carry a nasty punch for the usually lightly armed skirmisher and are able to outrange the better armored Peltast. They carry large shields in order to make up for some of this disparity, but they are not a type of soldier meant to do prolonged melee combat with standard Hoplites. (Greek ¡®brigandine¡¯ armor) Their purpose is to serve as a professional light infantry that can neutralize the effect of missiles on the heavy infantry. The combination of light armor and speed makes this infantry a great counter to pesky missile troops.

Illyrian Peltasts are warriors of western regions of hellenic world. Fighting with javelins and spears made them extermely effective against skirmishers and light troops. They fought in the same way as Ektodormoi. They are not particularly reliable soldiers, but they are certainly better than their eastern counterparts. They are not particularly useful against heavier infantry or even equivalent light infantry, due to their specialized nature.

Red Shields are the bread and butter military unit of the Antigonids. They are well disciplined and highly motivated pikemen that are armed and armored to the teeth. They are armored in a linen cuirass, a Thracian cap, stout boots, good bracers, and reinforced shoulder pads made from hardened linen (due to their experience with the deadly curved swords of Thrace). They have Illyrian style round shields attached to their bodies by leather straps that help support the weight of the shield and keep their hand free to grasp the sarissa. They are defensive infantry par excellent. They are the anvil of the two part Macedonian system of warfare, the heavy cavalry being the hammer. They should be used to anchor enemy soldiers while the Theurophoroi harass the flanks and the heavy cavalry smashes into the flanks and rear.

Red shields are unique unit of Antigonids. They are better, but more expensive, than other Successor's phalanx.

White Shields are veterans of Alexandrian wars. Most of phalanguites joined their commander after the death of Alexander. White Shields form backbone of Antigonos's phalanx - classical macedonian line infantry equiped with phrygian helmet, hard leathen cuirass and 12 feet sarissa.

After the Indian campaign, Alexander's phalanguites that survived in it, receaved silver-covered shields, and became imperian Agema of Alexander's empire. After his death, most of Argyraspids came to Antigonos. Other vere eliminated by local satraps. Many of them were sixty of seventy years old, when they had to fight in Diadohi war. When the war was over, Argyraspids settled in various garrison, where they spent their last days. Later, Slelucids and other Diadohi rebuilded Argyraspid corps, from their own veterans, but none of them was such a good warrior, as True Argyraspids.

Agema is best infantry of Sucessor Phalanx. Muscule cuirass, sharp swords and forced shields made them very dangerous oponent. Antigonos himself, even in his eighty years, prefered to fight on foot amoung his Agema, unlike his oponets. Agema is best used like their Argyraspidai counterparts, to hold the most crucial portion of a line. They are great phalanx infantry, well able to hold against most opponents. If they have a weakness, it is the classic weakness of pikemen: flanking attacks.

Armed chiefly with javelins these horsemen hail from Arachosia, Bactria, Sogdiana and similarly equipped light cavalry were also supplied by the levy from Persis and Media.

The name the successors give to unit depends not to region, where such units hired, but on style they fight. tarentine cavalry is a heavyer variant of skirmisher cav. Big round dhields protects them from evemy javelins, and lack of armor gives them superior speed. So, they are best unit to withdraw skirmishers and to set a ambust. Sords allows them to handle some melle, but not long. Historicualy, the acted in pair with heavy companions and cataphracts

Local satraps of Minor asia provided good heavy cavalry. Most ly they were from Kappadokia and Sinope. Armored horses and heavy equipment keeps horseman safe from arrows and light javelins. Their horses are as heavily armored than those of the Hetairoi, but they lack the characteristic fierceness and discipline of the elite successor cavalry. Of course, they are much less flexible and are valnurable when surrounded by light levies.

the Hetairoi, or Companions, were the elite noble heavy cavalry of Macedon and the Successor states. They are an elite heavy cavalry that is second to none and arguably the best cavalry of the period. They fight with a degree of §Ûlan, discipline, and simple ferociousness that is matched only by the horsemen of Iberia, Carthage, and the best heavy cavalry of some of the eastern nomadic peoples. They are armored from head to toe in iron plate (some still had bronze, but this was falling out of favor rapidly by 250 B.C.), reinforced with mail at key points. Their horses are barded with felt barding and often have bronze plates to protect their heads. Their helmets, with the two plumes, mark them on a battlefield. They are best used as heavy shock cavalry, able to decide many battles with a single charge. They are the second part of the hammer and anvil of Alexandrian battle tactics. They are armed with a xyston and a kopis, and are well able to use both weapons. If these men have any weakness, it is the front of a line of spearmen. Horses simply do not like charging into a row of men armed with big pointy sticks. They are still able to give a decisive blow to the flank and rear of any infantry.

Agema cavalry for horse guard of sucessor states. In imperial period of his reigh, Alexander borrowed Idea of heavy-armored cavalry for Persians and Iranians. After suffering heavy losses to the Parthian and Armenian Cataphracts, the Sucessor empires produced their own versions of these heavy horsemen, both adapting the unit to Greek technology and using superior metalwork to make them even more heavily armored. They are armored in an expensive combination of lamellar armor and chain, with heavy felt sandwiched in the middle. The resulting armor is tough and flexible, but offers outstanding protection. They are to be used as heavy shock cavalry, and have staying power in melee because of the sheer weight of their armor.

Wow, Thanks for posting here, I didn't even think this was still on the Forum.

I only watched, but Meneldil is the one who championed this. It would be nice if the models and textures could be released and maybe some of us could finish it. It was very priomising, as you can tell by the images.

Some very talented modellers and skinners were at work here.
