When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb...

This would be a good thread to make a poll on what are the type of musics more listened. Anyway this are mine:
-Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Dream Theater, Sonata Arctica, Rata Blanca (well pretty much all that is progresive, symphonic and power metal apeals to me except for ******* Rhapsody and other recent commercial bands ). Also Queen and some classical. But i like some other bands that don't fit the category, except for pop and other kind of country music of the zone.
Born On The Flames
I also think of Greenday and Blink182 etc. as Pop.I dont know man, I would say Blink182 and Greenday were Pop...

Just about everything, it comes out to I listen to far too much music, Against Me!, Crass, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, The Refreshments, Dream Theater, The Rammones, The Clash, Mellancamp, Petty, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Guthrie, Violent Femmes, Meat Puppets, Hooker, Hendrix, Waters, Cray, Johnson, King(all of em), Falcon Five-O, Drive-By Truckers, Dead Kennedys, Dave Van Ronk, Bottle Rockets, Dylan, Black Flag, Beatles, Apartment 26, and those are just the bands you may have heard of.
Sometimes I slumber on a bed of roses
Sometimes I crash in the weeds
One day a bowl full of cherries
One night I'm suckin' on lemons and spittin' out the seeds
-Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, Lemons
I listen to metal - all forms of metal - and some rock thrown in.
From power metal bands like Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Dragonforce and Rhapsody to death metal bands like Arch Enemy, In Flames, Children of Bodom and Meshuggah. Thrash metal bands like Slayer, Pantera and Trivium to classic heavy metal like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath and Black Label Society. I listen to pretty much any metal band, even progressive ones like System of a Down and Goth bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Nightwish...
As for rock I love Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, AC/DC and Tenacious D among others.
GARCIN: I "dreamt," you say. It was no dream. When I chose the hardest path, I made my choice deliberately. A man is what he wills himself to be.

GARCIN: I died too soon. I wasn't allowed time to - to do my deeds.
INEZ: One always dies too soon - or too late. And yet one's whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for the summing up. You are - your life, and nothing else.

now i'm here, and history is vindicated.
I don't really see what people have against Greenday myself. Its all right if you like that sort of thing.
For me, basically, metal. The last album I bought was Hammerfall's latest offering, very good. Not that into thrash/death metal, I've got some stuff by, say Ragnarok or Cradle of Filth, but its good riffs ruined by some talentless moron screaming on top of it IMHO. They should release instrumental albums.
Some goth is OK, eg Sisters of Mercy.
In more reflective moments, anything with good guitars. Hendrix, Joe Satriani, that sort of stuff.
"The only thing I've gotten out of this thread is that Navaros is claiming that Satan gave Man meat. Awesome." Gorebag
I listen to alot of metal and rock but also alot of Soul and Irish Folk thrown in as well.
Modern music is rubbish.
Give me some Iron Maiden, Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, Stone Temple Pilots...
I wish someone would strangle these 17 year old bleached blonde pretty boys who pretend to know how to play instruments or be rock n roll. When was the last time McFly smashed up a hotel room? It's always priceless when these plastic package groups get bottled off the stage at festivals, especially when the bottles are full of yellow water. 50 cent springs to mind...
Velvet Revolver are the best new band, because they are made up of older good band members.

French electronica, like air and daft punk (as popular examples)
prog rock (liquid tension, mogwai, the mars volta?, the tea party)
Rock (tool, a perfect circle, melvins, at the drive in. alot of the classics too, like pink floyd, led zeppelin, dire straits...)
Grunge (soundgarden, pearl jam, placebo?, smashing pumpkins, something for kate,)
i absolutely hate rap, with such a passion thats it hurts.

Nice list Big_John.
Ah, Green Day and the like. Hardly punk anymore, at best it's pretty standard rock with mediocre instrumentals. Still, my sister loves it and I must admit that when going along with my sister and some of her friends (to keep an eye on them, so paid by parents) to Green Day it was sorta fun in a big teenage mosh kind of way.

I see nobody else enjoys the best music (which indeed is Rap and Hip Hop) then?
Rap and Hip Hop were good when the artists actually knew what they were talking about. Now they're just a bunch of fake pre-packaged for sale to teens with too much money on their hands bunch of phonies who perpetuate a negative African-American stereotype.

I agree with you about some of the new wannabe rappers that are just made for teens, and I don't like them.Originally Posted by Al Khalifah

I'd agree with 2Pac, but unfortunately he is no longer with us. Dr Dre was good back in the day too. I just think the genre has saturated itself somewhat and it's overwhelming success has made the very message of the music itself somewhat ironic.
Would you agree that the likes of 50 cent and Usher are just a total embarrasment?

I agree with you totally Al Khalifah, the rap as of late seems to have disintergrated into something it shouldn't be.
As you say 2pacand some other heroes and icons of rap are no longer with us and he is a true legend but even though he is not with us the record companies are still making money out of him by releasing his tracks (Ghetto Gospel) which I think is a mockery.
But yes I do agree with you that Usher and 50 Cent are an embarresment to rap.
