    Default Custom Cities

Doing some skimming thru the mod threads I didn’t see any one where they advocated creating historically accurate cities. If this is being worked on and I missed it could someone please inform me?

If not, then how would it (could it) work? Is it possible to create custom cities and are various improvements displayed when they’re completed? I’m only familiar with M:TW so I’m not sure if this has been done in Rome.

Hell yeah! Making new cities in RTW was easy, M2TW's Campaign looks very similar.

EDIT: Ah, now I see what you mean. Scrap that first bit.

Yes custom cities could be created. Its a pretty time consuming process so most mods dont try to undertake it but yes it is possible.

Someone had a similar idea for Rome, but it never took off, because of the time it would have taken. But I hope this gets the support it deserves. Historical cities and fortresses would be an excellent addition.

Aside from dsyrow1's excellent Eternal Rome project - which I believe will be included in the Paeninsula Italica mod - which created the entire battlefield in 3DSmax, the greatest amount of information we have on making customised settlement plans is here:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=61337

And other related tutorials you can find in the tutorial database subcategory:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?catid=72

Whether the same files will be exposed in M2TW remains to be seen. From the screenshots, the settlements look a lot more integrated into their scenery so putting them together may be even more complex.

Doing a quick Google search for city layouts has proved unfruitful. Of the limited number of cities that I know will be in the game, I can't find 11th century maps for them. I know they won't be very detailed but I can't find any of them dated before the 16th century.

Does anyone have a good link to Medieval city layouts? I think I'm going to have to go to the library and look at an actual book!

I have layouts for a number of Byz cities ... they are in the book, uh, The Oxford History of Byzantium, the plans there are for a number of cities, though I have a sneaking suspicion that by the beginning of M2 a number would be in other nation's hands.

Although, the book does give a good overview of the basic layout of a generic town, so it might be useful, if CA actually gives us easier-to-edit city layouts.

Thanks. I think I'll have to look to Oxford once again for good maps. I'm really interested in seeing how the cities are constructed.

BL has some custom buildings and perhaps some little different settlement plans. But it isn't even near to recreating historical cities.

same book on page 37 is a layout of constantiople circa 1451 not as good as the london map as the city was quite large. it just shows the walls and the main buildings.

Thanks, I'll look for that book. It's so hard to find city maps for the time frame this game begins.

    Afternoon Vladimir,
I've had a trawl and have come up with the following links that might help

    http://www.trytel.com/~tristan/towns/ipswmap1.html

    http://www.worcestercitymuseums.org....ps/mapsind.htm

    http://www.theglasgowstory.com/image...b9046cb56551bc

    http://www.trytel.com/~tristan/towns/yarmmap1.html

    http://www.historiccoventry.co.uk/covmaps/allmaps.php

There are many towns and citys that retain parts of their Medieval street layout. You can easily find them on a modern street map.
    Barcalona is a good example.

    Good luck with your work.

    Many thanks
