For RTW:BI
1: Ciblinari + Kathaprankoi
- Quite expensive but turns the fortunes of war for me.
2: Sarmatian Virgin Cavarly + Bosboran Heavy Infantry.
- Cheap, effective & sexy.

Plus there is just something fricking cool about fricking elephants with fricking cannons on their heads.
Doh! I have Medival Total War 2 now but seem to have forgotten to name my favorite units!
Tsar's Guard.
Dvor Cavalry.
Cossack Cavalry.
Cossack Muskets.
Longbowmen of all sorts.
Anything on a horse that shoots bows!
"Hope is the last to die." Russian Proverb.
Knights of Santiago, don't they play in Division 2?
Qui desiderat pacem, bellum praeparat; nemo provocare ne offendere audet quem intelliget superiorem esse pugnaturem
All the longbow and unique polearm* units from MTW.
*Billmen, Swiss Halberdiers, Janissary Heavy Infantry, Voynuk Bladesmen.

Alright you guys good work and i hope more ppl come and tell me theirs!
sincerly...........................warking.............................
Hope is lost .................
I vote Hastati, simply because they are THE most effective unit ( in my opinion, of course ), in the early game as the Romans, specifically for me, the Julii, the Hastati dominate most other light Infantries, and the javelins ( pila ) they throw make them even more effective!
my favorite units from MTW2 would have to be dismounted gothic knights and dismounted feudal knights.
For the greeks i really like the armoured hoplites
for the romans i like the onagers
and i really like any kinda archers

From Rome and BI: legionnaires (silver shield or standard), and Sagitarii (this guys allow me to take on hordes on the open field )
From Medieval 2: Sword and bucler men, they are not only cheap, but they are also light infantry so they dont tire as easy as heavy infantry, plus their stats are pretty close to the knights
Nationality:
Ancestry:
Only have MTW, but my faves from that (in no particular order) are:
Huscarles (2 legged tanks, ready to hack through pretty much anything in early)
Turcopoles (Okay - so I have only really played as Cath factions - ho doubt I would soon grow to love some of the muslim and ortho horse archer units as well!)
Steppe Cavalry (just love having such a speedy unit to zap around the flanks or ride down routers)
Fyrdmen (great to have in early)
Horse archers of all types. perfect to send in as the first wave of an attack to sften up the enemy, break their formation and then withdraw quickly to be replaced with melee units to finish of whatever's left.
Old warriors know more tricks!
Spartan Hoplites all the way cos of their elite strength and they are more versatile than most pikemen. Plus spartans are trained to be warriors from their first breath as spartans had slaves that cultivated agriculture

Shogun&MI: No-Dachi Samurai. Anything that swings a big sword is damn cool by my estimation.
Medieval&VI: Havn't played much of it but so far i've taken to the viking Huscarls.
Rome&BI: Most definaetly the berserkirgang. They remind me of family...
"Young knight learn to love God and revere women, so that your honour grows.
Practice knighthood and learn the Art that dignifies you, and brings you honour in wars.
Wrestle well and wield lance, spear, sword and dagger manfully; whose use in others’ hands is wasted."
-Master Johannes Liechtenauer
STW:
-Yari Samurai: easily one of the most underrated TW units ever, but at the same time one of the most useful (i've often thought to mod them in MTW). If supported by missiles and cavalry, and properly upgraded, it might take even monks or no-dachis for a one-way trip to the gates of hell.
-Warrior Monks: need-i explain further? Unleash them at the right time and place and be ready with your yari cavalry to collect a few hundred He-eads!
True zen moments.
MTW:
-Any medium/heavy cavalry: let's face it: all those sword and axe units are nice, but they count to the glipitiglopos to protect them and to charge the enemy rear; few times they accomplish anything alone - if ever. Try playing without the "long knives" and let me know how you find it.

In RTW, Levy Pikemen, cheap, expendable, still fairly effective.
We have this almost mythical tree, given to us by the otherwise hostile people in the east to symbolize our friendship and give us permission to send caravans through their lands. It could be said to symbolize the wealth and power of our great nation. Cut it down and make me a throne.
In EB I like the Thorakitai Argyraspidai. They are high costing yet they are mighty effective troops due to their strong ability to throw javelins and to act as elite spearmen when they have to go into hand-to-hand combat.
In R:TW I liked the Roman Legionary Cohorts. They were the middle range of the Roman unit roster, not being to expensive yet still being extremely powerful and versatile with their missile weapon and their hand-to-hand sword attack. Even better they were very well armoured, able to beat off most attacks with their huge shield and robust Lorica Segmenta.
I don't really have a favourite unit in Barbarian Invasion or in M:TW. I haven't really played enough of them to have time to decide. Although in M:TW I am starting to have a thing for Byzantine Infantry!
Dawn is nature's way of telling you to go back to bed
In one of my early campaigns as the Julii I sent my most experienced army into Macedon. I also had a couple of units of archers in this army. All of my tactics are heavily dependant on missile units, especially archer units. Since I was far away from my advanced military bases, my archer units started getting depleted (I always try to protect them as much as possible)
Somewhere in the Macedonian teritories I happened upon a band of Mercenary Cretan Archers. What a relief! So, I combined all my depleted archery units and added my new Cretan Archers.
The next battle I was defending against a large Macedonian force that contained their faction leader and two additional family members. They were going all out to stop the Roman threat in their lands.
My troops were lined up in a defensive formation, with all my archers poised and ready to unload buckets of arrows on the enemy. As we were waiting for the Macedonians to approach, I suddenly and quite unexpectedly noticed that one of my archer units were firing very early... It was those Cretans!
Their superior range and firepower quickly outshined all of my - experienced - Roman Archers. I was amazed!
As the Mecedonian King proudly made his way up the hill we were defending, he drew the attention of my Cretans. On that day he was shot right out of his saddle by the mercenaries, before he could even charge!
After that battle my general scoured the Greek country side for more of these Cretans, thusly replacing the Roman Archers. These mercenaries played a pivotal role in passifying the Greek peoples and securing the region for the glory of Rome!
Since then I have had a tremendous soft spot for these skilled bowmen. In fact, I am a loyal fan and can never pass up an opportunity to hire any of them as any faction.
This has been a long post (sorry for that), so let me end by saying:
Cretan Aaaarchers!!
S-U-C-E-S! That's the way you spell... suces?
I'm torn between Dacian Shock Troops and Persian Archers... Well, basically stuff that can run fast, hit home hard, and cause a lot of damage in a short time.
MTW2 - Cossack Musketeers
I just fought a seige assault against the papal dog, the papal army was very strong, loads of swiss guard & dismounted broken lances. I had 1 cossack musketeer get 694 kills & they still had ammo left & lost no men
BI - Plumbattarii(probably spelt wrong)
The animation looked really good & you could see the stored darts on the inside of their shields. I think they are probably the best unit in a TW game as they where strong heavy infantry with good stats that had an amazing missile attack & plenty of ammo.
VI - Joms no need to say more especially when the unit got the pride vice.
MTW - JHI or CFK
STW MI - Mongol heavy cav or for normal campaign Nag cav where a great addition
STW - Samurai archers simply awesome in mass with weather permitting
Any kind of phalanx infantry really, but especially Armoured Hoplites. Ok, ok, Spartans may seem better, but my strategy is to use my hoplites to engage enemy, and when they rout (after impaling themselves like idiots with their initial charge and losing their entire first rank of men in one second flat) I chase them down with my cavalry. It works better with Armoured Hoplites because of their higher defense value. I also like Militia Hoplites alot. They seem wildly imbalanced to me because of the fact that they can beat most, if not all, tier one and two infantry, and because they can be obtained so early and easily.
Yeah I love Sword and Buckler men. They are cheaper (inc. upkeep) than knights, have the same excellent stats as Dismounted Knights and have +2 Morale over Knights. They are the perfect offensive infantry.Originally Posted by Maurus

Favourite units:
- Steppe Heavy Cavalry : Very nice, first fire all the arrows, and then charge the enemy!
- Huscarls : Well armoured, angry vikings with axes, does anything cooler exist?
- Szekely : Fast, good horsearchers, and not as good as dead if forced into melee.
Would be my only favourite, if the computer would be able to skirmish without pertmanent personal control.
