I think much of the problem was that my capital was in Africa. I tried mving it around, but I never found a spot that allowed the island to be profitable that didn't lower my overall profits (from my other settlements). That might have changed if it was fully developed, or if my capital were closer, in Arabia.

Hello,
I might be too late, but I was wondering whether you were still taking new players or not. I'm a friend of TheFlax if it helps in any way.
I could play the Ayyubids if you don't mind (or what's left of them, I hear they are not faring well).
Mahah. We have someone for the Aybabibs! You can certainly still join AFAIK. And if the Ayubabis dont do so well you could even switch to another afterwards.

I think I can check that later when I load up my turn...
having said that, that could be considered fair compensation for the fact that they've already lost gaza and damascus is under siege by the KoJ
alternatively you could take the turks, the kypchaks, the shah or the malikate of sindh...what do you think?
If you're definitely keen on the ayyubids I'll put it to the vote after checking whether those scripted armies have appeared or not...

phonicsmonkey Maybe you could test the AI to player conversion. Just pick up the latest save, use the command, then cycle through the turns.
Once of us could also start a test hotseat game and see if we can get it to work. I don't think the command has ever been used before. It'd be interesting to see if it works.

I'll be testing that in a couple of hours when I get home. The great Tosa Inu himself said it worked, so fingers crossed...Originally Posted by Zim

Oh dear, I knew the moment we started talking about it this would happen.
Now we have that problem from before (about the scripts) - what happens if a human player gets the Abbuybids after the AI has already had the first turn and spawned some free stacks (assuming that happens in a hotseat game, of course)?
I wouldn't object to having someone take them over, however disadvantaged both of us are. I mean, I wouldn't have attacked them on the 1st turn if they were human controlled. However, that's not to say I might be charitable and seek peace with the new ruler (which is what all you muslim rulers want, isn't it?) in return for a few concessions.

If Tosa said it works, then it almost certainly works.
Wonder if it will change the order? For instance, if all factions are allowed from turn one the Sultanate goes first.

I'm not going to cause you any trouble if playing the egyptians is an issue. If you feel giving me the Ayyubids would be unfair or complicated, I don't mind taking another nation.
I could play the Turks if it is less of a problem. Hopefully, they are not in a bad position yet.
Don't worry mate, we'll get you in the game one way or another (as long as the console command works)Originally Posted by Banzai Kamikaze

The Turks and the Ayyubids both are in challenging positions, surrounded by enemies..

As far as I know the turks spawn 2 stacks as well... though from experience, the ERE smashes them to tiny little pieces
But... since we're in the first turn and no AI has yet played, shouldn't there be no stacks at all...?
We'd have to ask the Roman and Armenian players about that. Normally thew Sultanate goes before them, but this time they may have had a chance to get the jump on them.
I for one wouldn't care if the loss of the Ayyubids first turn meant them getting a couple extra stacks, but then I'm not playing a faction near them taht would have to face those stacks.

The Lemongate brings up a good point. If we add in the two new players now, maybe none of the AI only scripts will run for them.

Theoretically yes, but it depends whether those faction's first turns still come up at the end of the turn order when they're switched to human control.Originally Posted by The Lemongate
For example we know that if all factions are enabled from the start, the Turks go first, but in our game they are set up to go at the end after the human players...

All right, whathever happens, I'll roleplay as best as I can (new ruler ? :) ).
I don't mind starting in a disadvantaging position. I guess I'd play more for the roleplay than for "winning".

The console can be used to nuke the stacks...

ok, it works perfectly - I switched the Ayyubids and Oman to human control and their first turns come up after Makuria - I will now update the first thread
There are no extra stacks for the Ayyubids, but if they pop up unexpectedly on turn 2 we can nuke them using the console as Zim suggested.
The only weird thing is that the Ayyubids and Omanis have their cities set to auto-manage for some reason - but that can be toggled off in each city's detail screen.
Also, Oman's turn comes after the AI turns for Kypchaks, Khwarezm and Turks, so if anyone wants to join as them, it will have to be either before their turn comes up this time or on turn 2
So, on with the show!

Does this change your plans considerably? With garrison scripts and tons of extra stacks, I think I'd almost rather have a fair against a human faction.

If it was human from the onset, I probably wouldn't have gone to war on turn #1. It took me only 7 turns to wipe them out in SP (on vh/vh) but I wouldn't be able to steamroll a human like that as humans know what a counterattack is...
Let's see how reasonable the Ayyubids are now...

7 turns? Wow, I wouldn't have thought the Ayyubids could be beat so quickly.

Just kill all the family members and you're set. The hard part is finding them all and killing them quick enough to stop the AI from spawning randoms to replace those they lose. It helps when it's stupid enough to put 3 out of 5 in the capital city, while the other 2 are in cities that border you from the start.
