weekend testing 12/13 july 2008

plans were tentatively made for testing the TMS variant of samwars this coming weekend.

TMS has already uploaded a little patch that adds MTW units in as "mongols".
That is a usefull starting point for testing,
though having played a few customs i think the steppe cav (light mongol anti-cav unit) are muchly overpowered

but to gather other peoples opinions feedback is needed

SO what is happening please

install beta 8, unzip this little file, drop the contents into the main game folder,
in custom battle or mp select 2008 Samurai Warlords
enjoy

P.S.: I'll make a patch with Techo_Mage's changes and then we can test those changes online and see if we got rid of the desync issue once and for all. It will be ready before next weekend and I'll make time to join you online for test games.

Hi guys,

here's the link for the Samurai Warlords patch 8.1. (222k)
I'll post this in several threads to reach everybody.
Features:

• includes the fix by Techno_Mage_of_Shadows.
• deletes all vanilla eras for easier access
• features a new Main Menu title, so that people can check if the patch is properly installed.
• the unit prod is still called "MP_11_unit_prod", the old will be overwritten by the patch, the stats haven't changed

Was this patch 8.1 tested?
I have made a new install with this one and......where are the Mongols??

I see the beta 8 and 8.1 at the top of the Main Menu but the faction screen does not show Mongols.

Edit: My error, my apologies. I was reading this wrong. Now I understand this patch is for testing the 'desync' problem and nothing to do with the mongol faction.

When I had used Techno_Mage's install I had mongol faction showing. (I played a custom battle last night)

Perhaps I had better try to re install TM's

So is this being tested on the weekend? I am busy all day on Saturday but I will make the effort to join in. I assume the main aim is to find out if desync is cured? A few 4v4 battles would be ideal.

Have you tried logging on to the foyer?

I can only get as far as the ....Connecting.... and my pc freezes resulting in a reboot.

My other installs work ok.

Back in Germany (GMT+2) it was always 20:00 for me, that would be 6:00 in the morning in NZ.
Is that correct?

must have been a server crash earlier today causing the crashes

however mongols ARE missing from 8.1

to install 8.1 AND mongols follow these instructions

it MUST be a fresh install of medieval,

then in this exact order

1.
install R'as beta 8 release

2.
install Samurai Warlords patch 8.1

3.
then add Technomage's mongol test patch 2008 Samwars Mongols

we can test both at the same time
(and i still think steppe cav (mogol spear cav) are overpowered.

All sorted now.

I used another install of Samurai Warlords that I had on my pc and installed 8.1 and TMS patches to it.

I'll be there about 20.00 hours (GMT+1)

Thus far, I have run some custom battles and the game is not that bad providing Mongol player buys a 16 unit balanced army. Mongol units still have the VI costs and are grossly underpriced compared with Japanese... MHC 535koku, MHA 375koku, Steppe cav 150koku.
With MI Mongol/Korean sprites added, it will look very nice. Beta 8 Sengoku era is still a seperate option, so it seems two eras already exist, all it needs now is the 'new' unit sprites and adjustments to unit cost and stats.
Until the adjustments are made, I'd propose that Mongol players just buy 16 units with no upgrades and not go over the top with cav

One era is SP and one is MP in beta_8.
"Samurai Wars MP" is for Multiplayer.
We did that because SP units are priced differently.

Yes R'as, I understand that. I mean you have a choice for MP.. SamuraiWars MP and TMS 2008 option as well which includes Mongols

2008 is the TMS era with Mongols.
The other two are SP and MP from beta_8 as before.

I Didn't Notice Any Problems outside of me Lagging like Hell in the 3v3. What is causing this? I did Beta 7 Fine, I did Beta 8 fine up untill Late June (2007), when I was lagging like crazy, and same in Beta 5 and now again in Beta 8. I'm upgrading to 1, mabye 2 Gig of RAM in the next few weeks, but I doubt that is the problems if I could do Beta 7 for Months without a problem with lag. Anyone can offer suggestions?

I am supprised that any 8000 series card works at all on the custom or multiplayer battlefield, as they use a different screen format than pervious nvidia products.

I just swaped dual 8800s for a set of 7600s, just so I could play this mod on my best machine.
