I would think Holland would be a good choice,
YAY! That would mean that I wouldn't have to travel all of Europe for this.

A party, eh? How about a hardcore political debate where the mods can only stop the participators through physical means?

Moi? I follow all appropriate laws and regulations concerning the carrying of firearms.

As such, if we meet in Washington it should be in a place not off limits to people under 21.

I like Lemurs VTC idea the best so far. Let's see, its 2008 right now, does anyone know what was the date of the first backroom thread? We need to do this on an anniversary of some sort...

    In the beginning...

    totalwar.org had 4 forums:

    Single player
    Multiplayer
    Tech, and
    Off-topic

that was 1999. Around mid-November IIRC (CBR or TosaInu can correct me).

Off-topic morphed into the Tavern, which further split into Backroom and Frontroom, which also split into a Gameroom.

So, to hang a date for planning purposes, I'd guess around 10-11 November 2008 would be the 9th year of the outfit. TosaInu may have (through ICANN registration data) the exact date that tw.org was originally registered by Dan.

Great job Kukri!!! Of course 2009 will be a little too early to organise something of this magnitude. Perhaps 2014 would be a good date. I really do believe this is possible. If we are still in this Halls by then, by God, we HAVE to do this...

I'm just stunned that I've been tramping these halls for 9 years. God, I had dark hair then, a 56K modem that actually ran about 44K, a 233MHz proc with 8-MB 'integrated' Intel video and Windows 95. I hooked the whole rig up to the battery of my Model A Ford, and Mrs. Kukri pedalled a bicycle/generator for me when I wanted to play Shogun multiplayer.

LINK to September 2002 actual face-to-face meeting of totalwar players (most of the pix are gone). Note: these are the oldest remaining visible threads we have - the original Multiplayer, aka: "Dojo" forum, dating from year 2000. There are others, but they're archived in a secure, undisclosed location.

There have been two other meetings I know about. All in Europe.

What? November 2008 might be a little early... But November 2009 should be more than enough time to cough up the cash for a plane ticket to the US(or from the US, depending on where we host it)...

Anyway, we should rent a place. Not sure how the situation is in other countries, but here there are plenty of community centres, halls, etc who are open for everyone to rent, and they're not very expensive either. Order some catering and beer, get someone to organize some events or whatever, and it sounds like a party! Book it for an entire weekend of course, starting on friday, ending on sunday or something.

If we need to make things cheaper, there are a dozen things we can do. If some members live in the area, and assuming those members are kind enough to offer it, we could do away with hotels, saving some cash. Haggle the prices, buy stuff in large quantities, and we'll save even more, etc.
