    Default Bow strings

    Hello,

First of all, I'm new here just so you know .

Not new to Total War though, I've played shogun, medieval, rome and medieval 2 and all the expansions so I'm a die-hard tw fan.

    Anyhoo here's my Question:

Will you be able to fix the bow string thing where the string doesn't actually draw back?

It just annoys me so much....

    thanks.

Sorry about the bad response you got. I don't know about the bow strings bending, but I imagine that it would be possible by changing the animation.

Well it would require adding and extra bone to the string and animating it wich is possible without too much work. So i'll leave it up to you to decide if we will/have/won't change it and time will tell.

    Thumbs down Re: Bow strings

What's with the evil grin? I assume you mean to say that you don't intend on answering the question and merely wish to torment us in a year-long campaign of waiting for EBII?

I am usually too distracted with watching all the arrows fly through the air to notice the actual bow animation.

    Question Re: Bow strings

Likewise. Did they ever have bowstring animations in RTW and EB 1.1?

Well something like that, i and i think the team wan't to keep surprises for you, the fans, so we can publish as many previews as possible. So not to torment you just to make it fun waiting for the release.

Well back in rtw there were a lot of bugs and problems because of the tools then ca released only the exporter wich for me and others didn't worked as it should(in fact i don't know someone for wich it did, worked fine with models but not with animations) and we couldn't fix all the animations that's why there are still some visual(not only) glitches with the animations even today.

We even wanted to create new siege models and did but we couldn't use them because we couldn't animate them.

no RTW didn't have strings attached to the bows at all.....

But I'd rather see that than see bowstrings that don't retract...

It'd be great if you could fix the animation, and otherwise you could just leave them out, but ofc it doesn't all depend on my opinion.

This the mod you were referring to?

I believe Strelac also did a new archer animation, but has yet to implement it in BC.

Yeah, I've seen something like this too. Looks quite nice, but I doubt it has very high priority.
However, I can live with stringless bows, if they choose not to implement it.

By the way, does it work for both horse-archers and ordinary archers?

Even if they didn't add it, wouldn't we be able to implement it ourselves?

Well we'll try to make it hard-coded so you won't be able to do this yourself.

    Hehe.
I didn't wan't to spoil the surprise since as you saw,it's not only the string that draws back but it also has an arrow to shoot and wich is animated.

Good to see you are back in action Alin.

Yeah, more complex though but that's because they allow more options anyway too bad that CA didn't release them and the wonderfull modding comunity had to make them.

BTW i didn't worked on any animations for EB2 because of my tight schedule however i did do quite some unit models and some special models wich i hope that they will be revealed soon anyway JMRC did worked on anims using animations from EB/RTW or creating his own.

its even (theoretically) possible in RTW IIRC. you just need to add bones to the bow, a bowstring, and bones for it.

in practice-I do not know, but i doubt it.

I think RTW engine had a pretty stringent limit to the number of bones you can have.
This was presumably at least raised if not removed altogether in M2TW.

Yeah not only that but it would cause a lot of problems, like the fliping of certain bones and other nasty stuff. Then the CA exporter was released wich would just crash, for me, when i exported an anim with it so i couldn't fix some of the problems for the eb animations.

Some animation even if they were opened and instantly exported with verci's tool would cause problem in unit formation...
Changing the dying animations would cause soldiers to dissapier, i presume that in fact they were under the ground plane.

explains the shoulder arm issue N2TW was having-they had to ditch it though
