Ok, I have set up this thread for the sake of charting all the symptoms of corrupted saves for future reference thus helping people to recognize the appearances and various forms of such. Always make sure to read all the info below BEFORE you try to report in a possible bug, error or anomaly. There is big risk that it might just a corrupted save and if this is the case, it has nothing to do with redux since the origins of all corrupted saves comes from flaws in the code of the original game. Corrupted saves are sadly enough common in both the original MTW and all other versions!

Some usual symptoms of a corrupted save:
  • The game have problems loading battles.
  • The game simply ignores certain battles as if they never happened. As in you can’t command them personally.
  • The game states that certain files are missing (when in fact they are not).
  • The game refuses to run at all. The game simply don’t load.

Corrupt-save “confirmation test 1A”:
  • Start up a custom battle, same factions and at least similar troop’s composition as the actual campaign-battle that you might have various problems with.
  • Start up another new campaign (temporarily) same faction and do a fight or two. You don’t even have to win those fights... All you have to do is to check if there are any “technical” problems with them that’s all.
  • If neither of these show any similar errors as you have experienced earlier, you got a corrupted save on your hands. Thus it is verified that it is a corrupted save.

When reporting in corrupt-saves symptoms:
  • Always do a “confirmation test 1A” BEFORE you report in any symptoms so you are actually sure that it really is a corrupt save you are trying to report in and describe.
  • Always state what version (MTW v.1.1 or VI/v.2.01?) you are running redux upon.
  • Always try to be precise, thorough and explicit in your description so everybody have a good chance of understanding the symptoms you are trying to describe. If you are not clear, there is little point in it…
  • Always remember that not everybody have the same knowledge on things as you do, so try keep it on a understandable level for all readers.

Counter-measures to corrupted-saves:

  • When a corrupted save is identified there is little else you can do short of go back to healthy previous saves and go on playing from that point. Because of these circumstances the only thing you can do to minimize the effects of these is to do regular “Master Saves” so you won't have to go back let’s say 40 turns. Do this at least every 5th turn to be on the safe side. Also, when you do these “Master Saves” do them at the very beginning of a turn, before you do anything. That way your chances of getting a healthy save are increased. Be aware of this and do those regular “Master Saves”, for your own sake!

Hopefully most people will be spared from this annoying and sad fate, but none the less if you happen to be one who is unfortunate enough to have a corrupted save, here is the place to report in its symptoms so you can help others in the future with your report. It might very well be that one day some other person’s symptoms-report helps you! So let’s all help each other out and do the right thing here, report in your symptoms!
