IIRC in EB Rome could build to the largest port size, but I had a silly notion Ostia was rebuilt into a massive complex in the early Imperial period (sadly I recall this from I, Claudius and not my years of Classical history and Archaeology), after EB's timeframe, and previously it'd been a smaller affair.

Obviously Ostia was suitable to late Republican Rome's needs but my impression was it wasn't a naval hub like Carthage or Alexandria in the EB period.

I guess the explanation could be the historical "player" chose not to build the large port before 14 AD but the EB player has the choice to do so.
Rome won't have a port from the start, just a fishing village and the purpose was to preview the map graphics.

Capua however will have one since it was more influential.

I think even Carthage's port, as is commonly viewed (structurally), dates after the second punic war; while as for traffic in Latium, Ostia was the most important one. Although I'm not sure, Capua and Neapolis might've had more activity...
Ostia was the port of Rome and the biggest port in Latium in the EB period, thats clear.

I am asking if it should be able to grow to the same size as Alexandria or Carthage, because in RL it didn't until after the EB period.

Well, urbanization started in the Middle Republic and its sack by Cilician pirates prompted shock and fear throughtout the Republic...
Plus with the grain coming from Egypt and Africa, it shouldn't be that improbable for a player to actively improve it...

Remember also that in EBII not all settlements will be able to develop all their buildings, so Ostia might actually stop like one tier short from those major hubs (though last part I'm speculating) :)

All in all, as long as its depiction is accurate for 272 BC, later development should be more than welcomed, provided it's reasonable and attested...
Also who knows, maybe EBII will end later than 14 AD :P

Your use of "u" instead of "o" was quite amusing in this case.

On a more related note everything is looking fantastic. Keep up the good work!

Only been used when the tree was cut down already. For cutting down the two-handed axe was in use, what made the stubs look much different. Also not sure if the two-handed saw was invented in Lugia 180 BC.

    But nice pics!

Sweet, You must have done some mindreading, I was already thinking about asking for some sneak peak on the lugiones since they were previewened so long ago but almost without pics but now there's my wish fulfilled and the explaination behind the lack of pics (they are still being done). Also, that second guy must have survived brawling with some Slaganz, what a hugly wound in his head! Very nice =)

300 men for the machines is going to take quite some arrows XD
Though I guess the 111 men cavalry can deal with them ahahahhaha

    Edit:

The wealth port of Carthage... https://img36.imageshack.us/img36/4390/carthageport.png
Easily the best looking one, although I'm still awed by the lighthouses for the greek ports ^^

And I've planned even more goodies in that department, a total redo of the strat map was necessary after all these years.

Is it a unit mentioned in the preview? Not trying to spam here so this is my last guess. After seeing this image: Click image for larger version.

ID:	6588, I think I see the La Tene phase D knife and javelin point, the subrectangular shield, the La Tene phase C/D iron handgrip, the knife sheath and a leather shoe. I also see a long spear shaft. So I'm thinking Late Koroi.
