    wow!
Back when a fully stocked bar was considered standard office furniture and Christmas parties were like something out of a Playboy cartoon. Why, the desks would be overflowing with every kind of hard liquor, and sexism was blatant. Boy oh boy, you'd find salesmen groping secretaries in the mailroom, keys would be exchanged, and although this was Christmas, Jesus was nowhere to be seen.

Excellent unit previews, especially the Dracones, can't wait to see the Celtic previews!.... One small thing though (calm down Getai fans I only ask out of curiousity not to pick holes in your faction or inflate an ego) but isn't the symbol at either end of the second Komatai's shield a Pictish symbol?

Aye, the cresent with the two "branches" coming out of it. It looks very similar to a Pictish symbol the only difference being the cresent is larger in relation to the "branches" whilst one of the "branches" ends in an arrow point rather than spirals. If you look up Pictish carved stones you should find it fairly easy.

that's iconography used in far more than a pictish context. no worries.

The more previews I see, the more I'm worried about EB2.

The reason is that I'm probably just going to stare at the units instead of managing the battle

Most excellent preview. Very good quality and I simply can't wait for such units like Pahlava Late Cataphracts and bodyguard.

Thanks for the comments, and I understand what a couple of y'all are saying. Gustave's work has been so good I forget to do unit research and just stare at his skins, of which he completes more seemingly every day.

Dacia was ruled by two great kings:
Burebista (82 ad - 44 ad) who united all the thracian tribes in what is now Romania. In this region used to live thracian, iranian, germanic and celtic tribes. The greeks had colonies at Pontus Euxinus. He fought against the celtic tribes: boii, taurisci and scordisci and defeated them. He conquered greek cities at Pontus Euxinus and had military campaigns in Illyria and Macedon. He ruled one of the greatest emipres of the time from the Pannonian plains to the Black Sea. Burebista was feared by the Romans because he had an army of 100.000 men. Because he had too much power the nobles assassinated him in 44 ad. During the same year Cezar, the emperor of Rome was assassinated too... Two great men died in that year... question mark...

Decebalus per Scorilo (86 ad - 106 ad) who fought the Romans defeating the emperor Domitian who after the peace treaty sent him craftsmen, weapons and armour and war machines such as balistas, onagers etc. Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus (98 ad- 117 ad) attacked Dacia for its gold. After two wars in Dacia (101-102, 105-106) {with heavy loses} he managed to conquer the south-central part of what is now Romania. Decebalus had the famous falxmen who teached the Romans a hard lesson of warfare and tarabostes, Dacian nobles. He was allied with the germanic bastarnae and buri tribes and with roxolani, an iranian tribe. Roxolani with their cataphracts helped the Dacians many times before. Decebalus used roxolani cataphractari. Tacitus describes them: they and their horses wore scale mail armour and each had a spear called conti and wielded a sword called gladius.
In that area there were about 9000 cataphracts.

I wonder is it possible for roxolani cataphractari to be recruitable in Getai settlements in EB II? There are historical evidence that roxolani fought alongside Dacians or Getai as Greeks called them in more than one occasions... just think about it! :) thx

Oh and one more thing I read that Thracians (Getai are included) had composite scale mail armour similar to the Skythians, golden helmets (the tarabostes - nobles) and a great variety of weapons such as: falx (two handed, single handed - sica), romphaia, swords, hand axes, two handed axes, throwing axes - the Scythian axe, spears, slings, javelins, bows etc, shields, manica. greaves, cloaks etc. I don't have enough evidence to suggest throwing axemen... yet... :D

    EB rulls! :)

    First of all:
Sarmatian/Skytian units will be available AOR to the Getai if they conquer certain provinces just like they do now but Sarmatian federati would not be recruitable in Getia/Getia Koile proper because they are like 300 years earlier. Skythian basic units such as archers, HA would be recruitable in places like Olbia for instance.
But this is 272 BC Getai, not 100 AD Getai.

But you could still reconstruct the fall of Sarmisegetuza with the EB 1 rooster with a little imagination and tweaking since the basic outline of the Getai/Romani armies over time stayed the same.

    Secondly,
    Bine ai venit in Dacia.

Well, you can look at it that way.

    But:
    1) I like to roleplay that I don't take a whole province at once; that when I've conquered the capital I still need to subdue several other parts of the province.
(For example: I don't build mines when I don't really control the part of the province they're in.)
    2) I hardly ever assault cities/forts. I wait till the siege time runs out, which results in a surrender or a field battle.

So for my style of playing, 2 forts per province = awesome. Especially if those forts would represent real historical settlements.

As implied in previous posts, this preview contains only part of the Getai unit roster.

I like to roleplay that by winning field battles (and thus forcing enemy armies to retreat towards safety/into settlements) my armies take over land, even if the game can't simulate that. (I love the Europa Universalis system of controlling/owning provinces and peace negotiations...) For example, when my Aedui army crossed Tiber and defeated a Roman army at the other side, my army "took over" the areas north of Rome as the opposing army retreated behind the city walls.

I, too, very rarely assault fortresses/settlements, but that's because I absolutely detest x:TW siege battles. The path finding is horrendous, unmanned (!) towers slaughter warriors by the dozens and even the peasant-iest levies are ready to fight to death for the [town] Square. While sally battles are not as horrible as assaults, it's quite annoying to wait for those exhausted 5-man units run back to you from the town square (unless you manage to rout the whole enemy army at the same instance). *Rant rant rant*

If only, if only field battles could (be it temporarily) move borders.
    I has two balloons!

This is so beautiful. EB team, you have done great work as always. The units look stunning, and I'm really liking the province description buildings for each province. They add a lot of depth and are very interesting.

Just in case the unit descriptions posted here are to be the unit descriptions in-game, I just thought I'd point out a typo so it isn't there in-game. In the Komatai description, it says "the distruction of Helis" when it should be "destruction." Just letting you know.

Like above, someone in the Sweboz department made an typo. Rooster instead of roster(unit roster).

Visarion, we won't be including the ceremonial silver and gold helmets on units, as they were most likely, as I wrote, ceremonial and only ceremonial. however, they do offer helpful iconographic aids for the Getai. On the several such helmets, we see helpful artistic motifs and several representations of armored Getic warriors. As for the last of the helmets you posted, that particular one has kinda puzzled me. I wonder whether the reconstruction is faulty. The pieces seem related to other Daco-Getic helmets and helmet fragments, but it is an odd looking piece of armor that doesn't quite match the others. Maybe MeinPanzer will see this and offer his thoughts.
