    Default Job Opportunity: Russian Translator!

Are there any Russian speakers here in the Frontroom who would be kind enough to translate these songs into English for me?
    Anastasia Prikhodko - Tri zimi
Anastasia Prikhodko - Vse za tebya
    Anastasia Prikhodko - Vera
I have searched online for the lyrics, but have found nothing reliable (ei, two sites give me two completely different sets of lyrics).

hmmm...maybe I should have mentioned wages.
Why does AP have to go getting himself banned when I need his talents!

Hmmm...problem is that for at least one of them there are two versions of the lyrics and I do not know which is which. I will try though. Thanks.

Here is the Roman version of the first:
    Zamelo dorogu shegom
    Za rekoyu ni dushi
    Netu sil ot sladkoy negi
    Miliy, miliy, pospeshi
    Gde nayti byloe schast’ye, podskazhi
    Dogorit moya nadezhda
    Slovno poutru svecha
    Obnimi menya kak prezhde
    Utali moyu pechal’
    Zamiraet moyo serdtse po nocham

    Tri zimy ya verila
    Chuda svetlogo zhdala
    Tri tsvetka ya sorvala
    Tol’ko v kosu ne vplela

    Zaneslo dorogu snegom
    Ne vidat’ nich’yih sledov
I so mnoyu v tyomnom nebe
    Tol’ko mesyats molodoy
Tam na nebe tol’ko mesyats molodoy

    Tri zimy ya verila
    Chuda svetlogo zhdala

I think these are the lyrics for the second one.

Hammer, anvil, forge and fire, chase away The Hoofed Liar. Roof and doorway, block and beam, chase The Trickster from our dreams.

eh i talked to my babuskha. she gave me the second one but the first one threw her off a little because it isnt in cyrillic. threw me off as well (i learned out of these super old grammar books she had and of course from word of mouth.) ill work some more on that one but heres the second one.

    All For You

All as always, all is good
As we wanted, under the schedule
    Simply January, has simply come
Snow fell asleep all to parting

There can be a year, there can be two
To me your calendar will tell the truth
I to the bottom, - you only hardly
    Something happens with us once

    Refrain:
Where I not shall silently loving
Happiness minute - all for you,
    All for you!

    White days, drive mad
    I shall draw two parallels
    Fires and I die away
Doors I shall open the first blizzard

    Refrain:
Where I not shall silently loving
Happiness minute - all for you,
    All for you!

    sound about right?

eh it sounds pretty at least.

ill work on the second one but it will take a little longer to figure out.

have you tried an online translator?

Thanks much Centurion1! And yeah, I have tried an online translator with rather humorous results. They can do Spanish to English fairly well, but when it comes to Russian, I think they have no idea what they are talking about. :P

Well, Centurion's grandmother did very well, but she did misunderstand some parts, at first glance translating them correctly, but if considering the context (very important in Russian), those few parts are rather incorrect. And anyway, about the translators, Vuk, they always fail with music lyrics - since music lyrics rarely make much direct sense.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    All For You

All as always, all is good
As we wanted, on the schedule
    Simply January, has simply come
With snow [you] filled everything by our parting

Can be a year, can be two
To me the calendar of yours will tell the truth
I, to the bottom, - you only hardly
    Something happened with us once

    Refrain:
No matter where I go, silently loving
A minute of happiness - all for you,
    All for you!

White (more likely ‘light’ instead of ‘white) days, drive me mad
    I shall draw two parallels
Fires die (‘gasnut’ is a word specific to Russian, a word indicating the end/death of a fire and nothing else) and so do I
Doors I shall open, of the first blizzard

    Refrain:
No matter where I go, silently loving
A minute of happiness - all for you,
    All for you!

    Solo

    Refrain:
No matter where I go, silently loving
A minute of happiness - all for you,
    All for you!

When I finish my Comparative Politics and Classical History Homework, I will translate the other two.

As a matter of fact, my main job and a source of income are the Russian-to-English translations I do for the immigration law office my father works in. Fifty dollars a page, but a shame the work is so irregular. One could say I am semi-professional by now, but my speciality is legalese, and I loathe poems or music - so my translations of those two are unlikely to be very elegant.

Ah, thank you very much AP! You are right, they do not seem to make any sense in English. :P I thought that the schedule bit was a mistake at first. :P Oh well, it still sounds beautiful. :P

So how is a translator as a job? To be honest, it is one that I have considered for the possible future.

Yeah, you welcome, I will try to get the other two translations to you as well.

I love it, I enjoy writing, I revel in legalese - namely the part where the proposals are written in the most complex, archaic, and long-winded manner as possible . the only problem, as I said, is the irregularity. The jobs come in clumps, followed by periods of still. This can be rectified by working in a large firm, especially one that has special ties to Russian-speaking nations - and those are plenty enough, considering the legacy of USSR.

One problem you could encounter would be the difficulty of mastering Russian (or almost any non-English language). Even I, as a native speaker, strain to write well in Russian legalese, as it is not my specialty. Thankfully, the clients of an immigration law firm want their native language to be translated into English, for the US Immigration Department to hear them, so I almost never get English to Russian translation jobs.

However, the vast, overwhelming majority of business is done by Americans in Russia, and not vice versa. Which means you have to translate the documents into Russian, or whatever the native language is. That is a job that is normally reserved for people with that indigenous tongue as their first language. Whereas translating from an indigenous language to English requires a better command of English, which is my case.

There are few reasons for any company to hire native-born US citizens since there are so many foreign immigrants in US with good education and that double first-language fluency (most people in my situation retain complete, perfect fluency in both languages) common to first-generation migrants who come to US in their early to mid teens.

So basically, you have to be lucky (or unlucky enough, actually, since US citizenship is the greatest asset one can have other than more than a million dollars - the amount with which you can 'buy' permanent residence and eventually, citizenship - yes, you can buy it ;p) to be born to a family that moves to US in your childhood. Sure, companies will hire non-native speakers, but they would rather have the best, and it is not worth learning a language when so many other opportunities are open to you, Vuk.

I know there is a myth that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn, but any linguist knows better than that. In fact, English is comparatively incredibly regular for a non-constructed language, and is one of the easiest to learn, at least for a Western individual. Mainly, this stems from the lack of any sort of conjugating. Spanish, for instance, is a pain in the rump, with all it conjugating - much harder learning it than it was learning English in a Russian grade school. Russian features more conjugating than arguably any Romance language, but Latin is hundred times worse. And Chinese is a pure nightmare. If you do not believe me, read this Economist article.
