The dual symbols of the "Sakura Shogunate".
Synopsis: Sakura Shogunate
Real Name: Sakura no Kuni
"
Land of Cherry Blossom", the Sakuran Shogunate spans several worlds, each ruled by a Daimyo, under the ultimate authority of the Shogun and his bakufu
(officials). The figurehead of this collective group of worlds is the Sakura-hime
(Empress), the leading female of a long bloodline, touted to have existed since time began.
The
Sakura no Kuni is named the remarkable red and pink colors of its abundant flora, especially the cherry blossom. It is one steeped in tradition and honour, following a closely related code of bushido, "
the way of the warrior". Boys and girls are taught at school age how to fight and properly defend themselves, taught how to live a life of service, loyalty, frugality and until death.
Domestic affairs are under the jurisdiction of the Sakura-hime (Empress), with
heavy guidance from the reigning Shogun. These affairs of the state are under the banner of the Sakura flower, which is present on all matters relating to the public and collectively to the "outside". The figurehead (Sakura-hime) may only be a female of noble blood, spanning from the divine bloodline. The males are usually killed near birth by aspiring and resident shoguns, to prevent the imperial family from holding the position of Shogun, and thus, remain a puppet. The current Empress is the last of this pure bloodline, with her only sibling twin brother being killed at the age of 8.
The military commander, and the holder of the real power is the Shogun. His logo "
the Dragon" is marked on all military documents and vessels, to remind those "outsiders" where the real power is held. The Shogun and his bakufu form the government, with very little offices occupied by some one not of Shogun influence. The current Shogun, Yoshiro, is known as one of the most enlightened and gifted Shoguns in history. He is well-known for his firm-but-fair ways within the Shogunate. To the "outside", the Shogun is known for his military aggression to perceived threats and takes a xenophobic stance to those outside of the Shogunate.
The Daimyo, are the lords of the worlds within in the Shogunate. The Daimyo's are the heads of the clans that populate each of the planets and hold heavy sway in the politics within their own spheres. While officially, the next Shogun is appointed by the Empress, in reality, upon the death or retirement of the reigning Shogun, the Daimyo between themselves decide upon his successor. This usually results in conflict as those with most power and influence fight for the position, generally till death. Those that fail upon this quest for the position, by honour, are to commit seppuku (honourable suicide).
Only other powerful body within the Shogunate is the Kage, the head of the intelligence and special operative service, subordinate and chosen by the Shogun himself, to reign till dismissed by the Shogun or his Successor. The position of Kage is usually assigned to close supporters or family of the Shogun, however, it is known that the Kage is often replaced numerous times by a Shogun during his reign, and many Kage do not live long after the demise of the Shogun.
