Thread: Why the helll can't i find clothing in my size?

  1. #1

Default Why the helll can't i find clothing in my size?

I'm getting tired of this and it's not like i'm a freak of nature.

I'm 6'1 and 185 lbs and yet it is impossible to find 32x32 pants or size 11 1/2 shoes.

Pants sizes shoot from 30x32 to 34x32 or even 36x32 and forget buying shoes.

5 years ago it would take some digging but it wasn't impossible to find those sizes now no one carries them.

Do i have to find some kind of specialty store now and if so who?

    Or ebay.

Which is not a possibilty considering that all the smaller shops that did that shut down around here and the only alternatives are mass market stores.

I'm not overly fat or skinny so why is it so hard to find clothing that fits?

For pants sizes, the problem is not your size, but your style. Baggy is still more popular.

11 1/2 is an average size, I'm guessing the problem is the stores run out of it, not that they don't stock it.

34x34 here, shoe size 12 here. I have the same problem with pants, not so much on the shoes.

Hey Silly, I got problems as well, but for different reasons.

I am 6ft 6, and no where sells longer than 34inch length pants, it is ridiculous.
I also have the same shoe problem, can't get any size 12's or 13's anywhere.

Though 32x32 is weird.. why not just get 34x32 and wear a belt?

You're just not an "off the rack" kinda guy. It's just not waist & inseam lengths that determine what one feels is "proper fit" either, as drone has stated. Your size should be common, so try online shopping, and if you have to, learn to alter your inseam length and cut/resew the cuffs it's really not that hard. Some online places like Eddie Bauer offer custom tailoring alterations for a small fee.

For shoes try onlineshoes.com, I buy most of my running & dress shoes on this site because I can usually find 9EEEE to fit my duck feet.

This is a good idea. This is what I do. I always buy my pants larger anyway for I like them to fit baggy.

I buy all my shoes at ebay. There is quite a selection. I have even bought 1/2 size larger and have found little difference in how they feel.

In fairness, 32x32 is a standard size, so it's got to be a fluke of inventory causing you distress.

    I feel your pain.

I would describe myself as having an athletic build and doing squats at the gym has given me above average quad muscles. I generally like to wear my pants lower (though not ludicrously low like a wigger or hipster) and if I want to buy jeans that look nice, I have to settle with buying a ridiculously long leg to fit my waist size. This means that most people with a 36 waist, are presumably about 6ft something as most jeans in my size come with about three or four inches of excess leg length. Basically, I'm fairly certain the mythical 36 x 29 jeans I want don't exist, at least not in any of the stores I shop at.

My advice to you then would be to buy pants that fit your waist, and then get them hemmed later. If your problem is the leg is too short, then I'm stumped. You could always buy from a "specialist size" store, but the clothes will probably look pretty bad.

My woes continue. I've checked two major clothing outlet sites in the UK and neither stock 36/29 jeans. I'm basically assigning my self to the fact from now on I will have to pay to have my jeans altered, if I wish to continue wearing good jeans. The only other option is shop at old man stores which cater for those who wear their jeans up to their belly button and have a big man gut. I'm shocked at the fact that major retailers seem to assume that most people wear the same sized jeans and it comes down to nothing but petty discrimination.

Now I finally understand MLK's Dream speech. I do dream of a day where I'm judged not by the size of my waist, but equally importantly the size of my inside leg.

Second hand stores are the best places to go, for odd and common sizes. The clothes are broken in, inexpensive, and have charm and character that you cannot find in new threads. Ebay has some good used stuff, but the price of shipping kinda negates the fact that they are at a reduced price due to being used. My mother is also an accomplished seamstress, she can hem or mend anything that I need. I don't wear anything new anymore, I like being a 'casual' dresser!

Man. A lot of you guys are physical freaks. Scary stuff, hanging around on this forum with you people.

Anyways, for the dude who can't find a 32x32 size: it's a very common fit, that's why stores don't always have 'em. They run out fast.

I'm surprised you can't find square pants; this whole country is square..

I'm the guy who should have a hard time; they don't sell Odd-numbered waist sizes in wallmart or Sears (I'm a 31x34, but I have to wear 32x34)

Are men with a 32" waist generally taller or shorter than a 32" inseam? I don't understand. I thought that size would be quite common.

    Marks and Spencer do a 36/29, I believe: http://www.marksandspencer.com/Blue-...r=1-8&rh=&page=

Bang, 36/29 fit, regular style, £9.50.

I generally don't buy stuff from M and S but I'm probably going to have to start buying at least some clothes from there. If I continue to shop at my current choice of shop for jeans (H and M btw) it's just going to become too expensive due to the inevitable adjustment needed on top of the price paid for the jeans.

I guess my days of shopping at youthful stores are over before I've even entered adulthood proper. I blame the current skinny youth population for causing the decline in demand for 36/29 jeans. And I thought we were becoming more a obese as a nation.. I'm not even fat either, a 36 isn't big!

Thanks for the find anyway, will have to bear M and S in mind from now on as a potential place to buy jeans.

Nothing wrong about shopping at M&S for items of clothing, especially for simple things like pants or jeans. Especially since M&S is on par with H&M.

Yes, whatever. It's only when you start going to Wal-Mart (like Mr. Vuk) that you know something is truly wrong you.

M&S do a good line in clothes overall, undearwear, socks, shirts and jeans especially. none of it is flashy, all of it is well cut and reliable (I can walk into M&S, buy a 32/31 and walk out knowing they fit without having to try them on).

as to whether a 36 is big, it isn't, bjut 36/29 is a slightly unusual size that is mostly for stockier people (not fat people) and increasingly people are taller.

Cheaper too, less than £10 for jeans that last at least 4 years.

my torso is long, and my legs are short (in comparison to each other). I cannot wear pants from the men's section, and I have to wear a medium shirt (which barely fits). And, being irredeemably skinny, I cannot find belts that fit. And poking one hole is no longer sufficient...no.

But now, I feel better about myself. To be surrounded with people with worse troubles than I....I feel awesome. I think I will go ..... be awesome somewhere.
