Rome total war no sound!!

I recently reinstalled rome total war the installation went fine and I had no error messages or anything. However when i came to play it I found out i have literally no sound whatsoever, not on the menus even could someone please help ive tried playing it like this but its just not the same.

has the game made incorrect assumptions about your sound setup, such as setting the game to 5.1 rather than headphones, or something similar?

or do you use a USB soundcard normally, whereas the game is trying to output to the onboard AC97/azalia sound?

I'm having a sortof similar problem guys....
I have campaign sounds and general speeches but in battle mode thats it. I have almost no voices during battles: screaming, battlecries etc. I also don't hear my commanders shouting out orders.....
I have the Europa Barbororum mod and I know this probably doesn't give support for that ( I don't hear the latin promised by the mod) but the same problem occurs in the regular vanilla as well

If theres something simple IM missing could you guys let me know? Or is there something wrong with the files....
