Unit names are japanese derived.
System:

Examples:

Term explanations of name parts, examples:
Pool
Inaka = Province or units derived from the provincial warrior pool
Shiro = Castle, spawned from the garrison units pool, to understand also as standing household troops of the capital of the province
Oda (or any clan names) = Stands for housetroops of the according Daimyo/clan (derived from vanilla base)
Nanban = Indicates trade with nanban locations/people (europeans), ie. early Matchlock units.
Han = Feudum (valid for Samurai instead Inaka) / since post v1.98
Property
Kashin = Lesser Samurai
Bushi = Warrior (known already from Onna Bushi, used partly also for other special units)
Shin = Retainer (Samurai sticked close to the clan or a local family)
Oban = Elite Guard (the vanilla "great guard" unit), usually elite vassals or elite family members
Daisho = Elite-retainer warriors sticked to a general or the daimyo himself
Sensei = Master or Mastery of a weapon branch (the hero units)
GeSakunin = Peasants (Ashigaru) with land-possession / since post v1.98
Sakunin = like above (one class above GeSakunin though) / since post v1.98
