Trying the underground farming a bit.
When visiting TinCow's lair.. I saw coloured cheep. WTH?? I thought. But it seems like a legit method of getting coloured wool.
Trying this at home.. I saw an interesting side effect. I coloured the cheep in only two colours, since I am primarily going to use those two. But breeding them gave an unwanted side effect: Behold.. the genetic masterpieces:

If you want to mass-produce colored wool, the only efficient thing to do is breed colored sheep. Some dyes are relatively cheap and easy to obtain, but others, particularly those that use lapis and ink sacs, get prohibitively expensive to produce in large quantities. So, it's far easier to simply dye a few sheep that color and then breed the sheep. Inter-breeding of colored sheep is an issue though, which is why I built 16 separate pens for them. It takes up a lot of space but it's already saved me a lot of time and resources with wool harvesting.

So, I went back to my old house to look at some designs I used. I got smacked around by a wave of mobs. I died. When I went back to get my stuff, a bloody skeleton stole my pants! And my diamond sword.

For those of you who don't follow Mojang's posts, we're about to get fireworks, enchanted books, and netherbrick slabs. The next update with these things is scheduled for next week.

I wish they would introduce wool slabs. Makes sense, really.

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

What is the purpose of the fireworks? Is it just to celebrate the end of the year, or does it actually do something? I read that it may scare wolves, but that isn't really a useful purpose.

The login severs go down on occasion, either due to patches or (more likely) DDOS attacks. It's annoying, but there's nothing we can do about it.

@Sigurd, just letting you know that I've dropped off some bookcases and an enchanting table in one of the chests in your enderman farm - you can arrange them however you see fit.

I have finished making the last modification to the ender farm. I put in an anvil as well.. for those who would like to repair items close to a xp source.

Sigurd's ender farm is extremely effective. I went from lvl. 19 to around 50 in 5 to 10 minutes.

I'm also in fighting in the arena for the first time, so if anyone wants to join me it would be nice.

    Hello Friends,

I just joined the MineCraft server today.

Beeing new to MineCraft I just spent a few minutes looking around and managed to find the noob hotel just in time before night fell. I checked into room 2, but have not yet figured out how to put my name on the door sign.

But I have to say, this is a very nice place. Very impressive, what you have built here. Deserves at least 4 Michelin Stars.

Oh, and @Sigurd, I saw you logging on as well at the time. I did not talk to you, but this is not because I wanted to be rude (most of the time I try not to be), but simply because I dont know yet, how to chat in Multiplayer.

I still have a lot to learn.

Welcome! Unfortunately, there's no way to edit a placed sign. In order to change it, you have to knock it off the wall (punching it for a moment works) and then replace it.

Welcome Nigel! Feel free to trade in my villages at any time. The merchant huts in the near desert village have reliable villagers. Someone left the gate open at my other one letting them escape. I'm sure no one will have a problem donating starter supplies in less you want to do it all by yourself.

I timed the ender man trap...
When you first start it, it might take a little longer. But if you are there to enchant or repair - and have wiped out your XP in the first round of enchantment, the trap has had time to fill up. A second run starting from level 0 to 30 took me 1 min 54 sec.

Fixing a near broken diamond pick axe with unbreaking III, fortune III and efficiency IV took 3 rounds of about 36 - 38 XP repairs. That is costly...

How exactly did you do that? Even with 60 XP and a full stack of diamonds, the anvil kept telling me that it was "too expensive" (with the exact same enchantment, incidentally).

Dunno if this applies to your situation, but repairing items gets more expensive in XP the more times you do it. It also costs more if the item has a custom name. In fact, I've concluded that custom names are actively a bad idea on high level items for that very reason. If you can't repair an item due to excessive XP cost, what you can do is simply convert it to a new item. To do that, all you need to do is put an unenchanted version of the item in the first slot and the almost-broken enchanted item in the second slot. Combining them will give you a brand new enchanted item with full durability and with all the enchantments from the old almost-broken version.

Nice... Got to try that next time... might be a bit less expensive.

Or you could do as I did, which is quite XP expensive. Put one diamond into the second slot - and your awesome pick axe into the first.
Burn off 36 xp. Put the pick axe into the first slot again with a new diamond and burn off 38 xp... rinse and repeat until you have spent about 4 diamonds and a ton of XP.. and your awesome pick axe is as good as new.

It helps having a XP farm nearby...

Would I be rude to ask for a map update?

The dimensions of my castle is getting too complex for mere in game overview. I am wondering if I need to change a few of the structures.

Yeah, sometimes you've got to clear the cache to get it to refresh. I'm not sure why that happens on some browsers, but it does. Oddly, I never seem to have to clear my cache with Chrome.

Thank you for the warm wellcome, guys.
Vladimir, I may come back on your kind offer sometime - although for now I will try to get started out of my own power as much as I reasonably can.

I cut off some branches from the trees near the noob hotel to build some simple tools. And I took a melon from the roof garden of the hotel. Do I need to do anything or will it grow back by itself?

Also, Sigurd, where is your castle located? We seem to be in similar timezones and I may drop by for a visit sometime.

    I found a desert temple at x = 91 z = 3290. It's the only one I found.

EDIT: Found another one at x = 380 z = 3657. Pretty close to the first one.
