    Default Making your own furnuture

As a pet project of mine, I'm going to make a cupboard. Unfortunatly, I have very little experience with woodworking.
Does anybody have some good tips?

PS I might as well share my progress as well once I start.

I picked up carpentry as a hobby a few years back, although it did not last long...just a few months. I made a little shoe-rack which is still standing, but that's about it.
What I can suggest is that you need make sure that you get good wood/plywood depending on how you want to go.

What all tools do you plan on using?

The usual: table saw, sander, electric drill, milling cutter, ... nothing to fancy.

I do have some experience with carpentry but not with building furnuture.
If I have time tonight I'll post my plan for the cupboard.

I made a primitive book shelf. And there are barely any books on it. Just research papers and notes in one big mess.

Assembling stuff from Ikea is as far as I go with making my own furniture.

Both my grandfathers were carpenters though, and they did make some very beautiful things, some of which can still be admired in the house I grew up in.

I have a future father-in-law with some extensive experience with making his own furnuture. Although, I think he would rather look on amused as I make every possible mistake before actually helping. I really like the man but he has to have his laughs.

Pointing out he's getting old isn't that original although it would be in a very creative way.

    One good tip, night class

Oh, and Phil, the best way to learn is through your own mistakes and breaking stuff, that's why we have apprenticeships.

Heh, that's not what I meant, but I guess it can say that too.
