I don't know whether to be happy for getting a better job, or sad that I'm a rent-a-cop.

Hey, congrats! I tried for security positions at several places, but did not have any luck. I guess being 6' 2 1/2" and having years of martial arts and handgun experience, not having any provable mental disorders, and having a college degree does not qualify me for the position. :P

In Oregon all you need is a clean criminal record and about a hundred bucks for the course. And another hundred bucks for another course if you want to carry a gun on duty. Took a lot of trying, though--even though the certification is easy to get, hardly anybody is hiring.

lol Frags, at very few places is a security guard really in any more danger than an average person.

Yeah, all I'm gonna be doing is guarding a shipping warehouse. I'd be terribly surprised if its anything but boring.

So you opted for no firearm? Or do you live in aa state that doesn't require an MMPI for a gun?

Personally, unarmed guard work is better than armed. Most armed guard jobs don't pay that much more, but there are far more liabilites and dangers, especially if you pull a bad post. Plus, as unarmed you can still carry nonlethal stuff I am sure.

Get a few months experience as an unarmed guard, then swiftly begin applying as security at local hihg-end strip clubs. Then, return here and thank me for your new stripper best friends

Agreed. No one can fault someone for that job.

I only went for the Unarmed certification. Very few places want armed security around here, and most of them are armored transport companies (which won't even hire you until you've done time in other security fields).

That said, I'd lie like there's no tomorrow on any kind of personality test. They're not deep or comprehensive enough to actually gain insight in to your personality either way (not even the MMPI) and so their only purpose, as far as a prospective employee should be concerned, is to be manipulated to your advantage.

Don't say that. If the movies/viedogames are anything to go buy, unsuspecting security guards often find themselves in the thick of things, and end up taking out shady organisations, and terrorist groups single-handedly.

The MMPI is sensitive to false good results. Anyway, it's not so much a personality test as a tool for diagnosing mental pathology.
    Machine? Projector? Gear?

    Projection.

This was the way with some men. They sealed themselves in, bricked their ears and their mouths, and spent their remaining days speaking only with their eyes—until these too became inscrutable. Many, you could wager, held chaos in their hearts, shrill and juvenile. But since ignorance is immovable, they seem immovable, imperturbable. Such is the power of silence.

Armored car security is a great, high paying gig if you can get it. Be warned, though, they over scrutinize your personal life even after you are hired. I have done my fair share of "activity checks" on these guys, hired by their financial institutions, and justified by the idea that ones bad personal habits could make one vulnerable to extortion, etc, not unlike a government clearance. It's a dirty little banl secret.

Not saying you have bad habits, just giving you the FYI should you look into this in the future.

I would totall fail such a check. Ironic I am the one doing them.

You are perfect for the job, you know what to look for!

Congrats on the job, GC. Are you hired directly by the warehouse, or are you working for a contractor? The job might not be that boring, maybe the local "legitimate businessmen" will express some interest in the contents of the warehouse.

Contractor, and a really small one from out of state at that. Less oversight is a good thing in my book.

To be perfectly honest, all I want is a job that won't piss test me and pays more than minimum wage. I got one out of two, at least.
