    Post Campaign Length

    Hello Again, (my second post...ever)

I've searched around this forum but couldn't find anything on this topic, so if its been done before please just ignore this or perhaps provide a link to the relevant thread.

Basically, all I want to know is whats the lengthiest campaign game you've ever had? Although i'm sure I came across it somewhere, I remember reading that the game cant go beyond about the year 43 AD or something like this - has anybody ever gone beyond this year? Is it possible to edit the files somehow to allow the game to last longer than this?

Also, as i'm still fairly new to the game and only on my first Campaign (Brittania), is final victory only achieved with the capturing of Rome along with 50 other provinces, or can you go onto conquer the entire map?

    Thanks for any replies!

the time span is 270 BC- 14 AD

My lengthiest campaign would probably have gone to the year 190 or so, since I was waiting for the reforms to happen.

As far as I know it isn't possible to edit the time span, although RTR made the game start 10 years earlier ( 280 BC ) ,

you can conquer the entire map (if you don't get bored) as long as your not roman, my longest was the conquering of the world by greece that went on until 3 bc when i finished the conquest of spain.

you can also do this as a roman faction right ? why couldn't you.

just quick save when you get the victory screen, that should work.

When you get the victory screen, just hit the "continue playing" button, even when as the Romans.

    ...different version, perhaps.

To change the timespan of the game, I think you may have to edit some game files. I I am not wrong the descr_strat file in /world/campaigns/maps/imperial_campaign has a parameter for start years and end years. Just click around the files in the game folder occasionally when you're bored--it's amazing what sort of moddable things you'll find in them.

That's funny, because I just won the long campaign as the Julii less than three hours ago, and it asked me if I wanted to keep playing or not right below the little video that plays.

The "Continue Playing" button was added in the v1.2 patch after popular demand. If you don't have that patch then you can Quicksave during the victory video and then reload it to keep on playing.

You can change the start and end date of the campaign in the descr_strat file, near the top you'll find the following lines:
    Code:
    start_date	-270 summer
    end_date	14 summer

My longest campaign was too 66 BC I think.
I have conquered something like 97 regions and still have a few left to conquer; but it`s so boring that that will prolly never happen.

95AD for me!!! I guess that I am the winner!
I was playing as Carthaginians encountering two strong enemys, egyptians and scipii. In the game I made some serious tactical mistakes and had many problems with citys revolt (playing 1.0) plus some technical problems with serious lags in sieges which I lost many of them!
I became stubborn and finished the campaign rather than give up!

Well, thanks for all this input - its certainly answered my questions! I'm still only on my first campaign anyways and now have the entire Summer (when I'm home in a couple of weeks) to conquer, rape and pillage (in the game, of course)!!!

The only campaign i've finished as been with the Scipii. It ended in 126BC or so with my heir marching into plague-stricken Rome with a full stack of Gladiators under the guise of establishing order. ;) My faction leader would have done it, but he was busy conquering Parthia and Armenia.

The RTW game is great example how game dynamics doesn't follow turn limits.

Most campaigns are done in 3-digit BC, often before 150BC.
And that's just half of the turns in the game.

Like it's balanced for one turn per year then two turns per year.

    P.S.
Probably the reason why BI will have much lower turn limit.

I have tried this but when I try to save the changes it tells me that access is denied. Is there any way I can overcome this?

    First off, check this out:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...escr_strat-txt

    and:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...o-don-t-no-%29

Some basics for RTW file editing.

    Then here:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...ta-Release-001

The link to v004 still works. It might help with the actual modification of descr_.txt files.

    Hope this helps

I've been playing for a couple of weeks now on the same campaign. By far one of the best games for your money.
