    Trouble in Grasslake
Thom’s patrol has been laying the Scent Border out past Wolfepointe when they return to Grasslake at the beginning of the summer. As they approach the town, Thom’s friend Harold, who lives in Grasslake, comes running through the marsh grass, howling for help. He tells the patrol, “A giant monster! A monster in Grasslake! Tearing down the town, eating mice, crushing my brewery!"

Sloan's sworn enemy, Lester the Ex-Tenderpaw, is also in Grasslake.

A giant monster! Instantly Kyle's senses go into overdrive. Readying his spear, he scans the surroundings for signs of the monster, in an effort to identify the threat.

"obviously the monster is not right here," groans Harold while rolling his eyes at Thom. "It's in the town".

As the patrol makes their way to town, they spot a gigantic snapping turtle wedged itself between Harold’s brewery and Grasslake’s bakery. Currently, it appears to be sunning itself as well as basking in the heat of the bakery.
The mice of Grasslake have gathered in a hushed and horrified crowd at the far end of the town square. Startled, they scatter once more when the smug old monster eyes the mice, clearly thinking about its next meal.

At the sight of the mouse guard, the mayor, the baker Honeywind and Lester Emerge from their hiding places. The mayor clutches Nathaniel: "The monster has crawled up out of the lake and beached itself in the town square. It has crushed the wharves, sunk a bunch of fishing boats and will surly do even more damage next. "Not my bakery, not my lives work!" Shrieks Honeywind.

No need to fear, mr honeywind. I will distract the monster by throwing small rocks at his head. He will hopefully follow me and I will try to shake him off when we are a couple of miles away from the town.

Our first priority must surely be to protect the mice of the town, followed by protecting the town itself and then neutralising this beast. Providing we do not drive it into a blind rage with our actions Nathaniel's plan therefore seems a good one. I happen to have a bottle of brew upon my person, and as much as it would pain me to part with it I could use it to set the turtle on fire if we drew it far enough away from the town. This might damage it enough for us to get some blows in, killing it or at least teaching it to fear mice. Or it could cause it to try and seek revenge at the town. Still, Who Dares Wins, right?

'Drawing the turtle away from Grasslake might prove tricky' said Kyle. 'These beasts will stick close to the water, and this one looks like he's made himself comfy. However, we know that they will eat anything... perhaps we can use that to our advantage?'

While the Guardmice discuss plans, the monster's hind legs begin to move back and forth. They repeatedly pound everything in the vicinity including the brewery and the bakery. Desperation forms in the eyes of both Harold and Mrs. Honeywind.

We need a compromise and quickly or the brewery will be destroyed!!

So because Sloan volunteered to distract him, I say she can go as the decoy. There will be no danger at all for her though. the turtle can't be fast with his shell. As soon as he gets out of the town, we can maybe stop his hunger with leaves and grass (as he eats anything)

OOC: SLoan is a 'she' :)

    ...and.... Yikes! Time moves forward!

Predictably, Kyle turns searchingly to Thom for instruction.

Okay mice, it looks like the distraction plan has won approval. This is a dangerous job, and so I don't think it should go to Sloan - no offence to her, but we need an experienced guardsmouse that knows how to react if the situation goes wrong. I'm not as agile as I used to be so I'd prefer for Kyle or Nathaniel to volunteer, but if neither want to take this hazardous duty upon themselves then I can attempt it.

Meanwhile, we will urge the townsmice to stay back, and also interview them to see if they have any rope, poisons, flammable materials, or any other means of killing or incapacitating the beast.

Is everybody in agreement? Would Kyle or Nathaniel like to volunteer, or should I go and distract it?

Kyle gives a brief nod; sets his spear and approaches the beast from behind it's line of sight.

His plan is to give the Snapper a solid jab behind it's jawline and then dart in front of it and make enough of a show for the townsfolk that the beast is enraged and follows him. His intention is to draw it back toward the lakeside, and along the coast of it to the South.

I'm feeling recklessly suicidal today, so how's this for a plan:

Thom will climb to the top of the brewery, then jump onto the turtle's head. Once there I will stab at its eyes until it either dies or appears to be irritated enough to chase me, at which point I will jump off and try to lead it away from the town (and particularly the brewery). Hopefully since I'm a mouse I won't take too much damage from when I fall/am thrown off.

What skills would I use here? Fighter for four dice, or is the fighting component too small a part of the overall plan for me to use that?

Sloan is confident that's the case.

"I think we should use the whiskey to light a fire in front of the turtle to distract, and maybe frighten it, while we save that poor little girl."

*hic*...I'm fiiine. I'll do it, jusht you washt me.

On a serious note, Thom opines that most of the surrounding buildings are wooden and thatched. A fire runs a serious risk of causing an inferno that will destroy the town - especially if the rest of the brewery's alcohol were to ignite.

Despite my earlier glib remarks I wouldn't really consider it suicidal. The turtle can't do anything to me once I'm on its head apart from throwing me off, and as a mouse that shouldn't hurt me too much (Square/Cube Law and all that). Stabbing it in the eyes should get its attention on me at the very least, and once I'm on the ground, well, turtles aren't exactly renowned for their speed.

Flower is in danger, so let's put a time limit on the decision. You get to until tomorrow evening (within 28 hours) to make a plan. Otherwise everybody acts on their own.

Alright then, we'll run with edse's plan. Shall two mice light the fire(s), whilst the other two try to stop it from spreading (organise a preventative bucket chain, maybe?

OK, So I'll assume that everybody knows where everybody else is and that Sloan and Kyle are aware of the barrel of whiskey.

By the rules, the one proposing the plan should be the one executing it. Edse please roll; Ishmael, LazyMcCrow, GH please state if you're in team Wiskey or in team Water and how.

Alright, I will be in team whiskey. Survivalist 3, cunning 1 and shield 1 for a total of 5 dices. Have I understood correctly? Can I add nature 6 as well?

I will roll both 5 and 11, pick the correct one in case I'm away for a day. 11 is my first choice as I feel this is important.
