Hi, Well I started a new campaign following the emperor update and they seem to have done a lot of changes to the tech trees.
So I guess that farm spam is no longer the game we play.
How is everyone else finding the new economy?

"Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it."
Start is a lot lot harder, especially if you start in some of the poorer regions. As the Suebi, it's very very hard to have more than 1 stack early on. I like it to be honest but it also makes diplomacy and keeping everyone except for your war targets happy very important.
You can screw yourself a lot if you mess it up in the first 20 turns or so.
The reduction in squalor actually made it easier, but the start is harder. Once you get to a certain point, let's say after 30 turns, your economy will pick up steam and eventually lead to serious profits.
15.000 turn profit with the Romans in turn 75.
Ja mata, TosaInu. You will forever be remembered.

Been to:
Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
Yeah there is a hump where you need the research/money to be able to get extra food & happiness level 3 simultaneously in order to have both food & happiness to buy the level 3 economy that you need to afford more units that you need to expand.
Once you get clear of that & get a successful expansion you can scale up fairly easy as far as I have gotten.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...
it's much easier now in terms of squalor (easy happiness). but corruption effect is much stronger now and the techs don't reduce it as much. so, actually, the long term is where having high economy is harder now.
it is easier to have lots of slaves now though.
p.s. having said, what I said, it was ridiculous to have 2-3 million in treasury on legendary difficulty and still gaining 60-100K/turn ;)
